Early Life and High School Football

Musa Smith went to West Perry High School in Perry County, Pennsylvania. He was a top high school football player there. USA Today even named him an "All-USA" honorable mention.

College Football Career

Musa Smith played college football at the University of Georgia. He was a running back for the Georgia Bulldogs.

Amazing Junior Year

During his three years at Georgia, Musa ran for 2,202 yards. He also scored 19 touchdowns. His best year was 2002, his junior season. He rushed for 1,324 yards and eight touchdowns. This made him the first Georgia running back to gain over 1,000 yards in a season since 1992.

Sugar Bowl Victory

Musa played a key role in Georgia's win at the 2003 Sugar Bowl. On January 1, 2003, Georgia beat Florida State 26–13. Musa carried the ball 23 times for 145 yards in that important game.

Musa Smith was chosen by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2003 NFL draft. He was the 77th player picked overall.

Musa played for the Ravens from 2003 to 2007. In 2003 and 2004, he played only a little.

During a game in 2004, Musa got a serious leg injury. This injury kept him from playing much for two seasons. He only played one game in 2005. This type of tackle, called a "horse-collar tackle," was later banned by the NFL.

In 2006, Musa worked hard and earned a bigger role. He became the backup running back for the Ravens. He ran for 262 yards and scored three touchdowns that season. He also caught 28 passes for 180 yards.

In 2007, Musa had an even bigger role. He ran for 264 yards and scored two touchdowns. Overall, with the Ravens, he rushed for 496 yards and four touchdowns. He also caught 54 passes for 363 yards.

Time with the New York Jets

On May 27, 2008, the New York Jets signed Musa Smith. However, he was released by the team before the regular season started.

Musa Smith is a Muslim. His name means Moses in Arabic. He has three children. His brother, Taalib, works as a personal trainer.
