Discovering Ancient Life
The Carmen Funes Museum was started in 1984. It quickly became a popular place for tourists in the Neuquén Province. The museum is located at 55 Córdoba Avenue, Plaza Huincul. You can find it east of where National Route 22 and Provincial Route 17 meet.
What You Can See and Do
The museum has a special area where you can see all the cool exhibits. There are also workshops where experts carefully prepare the fossils they find. The museum often works with museums from the USA to explore Patagonia, which is full of amazing fossils. The museum's collection includes 11 holotype specimens. A holotype is the single most important fossil specimen used to describe a new species.
Famous Dinosaur Exhibits
The museum has hosted some incredible exhibits over the years:
- "Tiniest Giants: Discovering Dinosaur Eggs": This exhibit showed off the sauropod eggs and embryos found in Patagonia. It was created with help from the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County.
- "Giants of the Mesozoic": This exhibit featured a pretend battle between two giant dinosaurs. One was the Giganotosaurus, the biggest meat-eating dinosaur known. The other was the Argentinosaurus, the largest plant-eating land animal ever. This exhibit was made with the Fernbank Museum of Natural History in Atlanta, Georgia.
