Mychel Thompson (born June 1, 1988) is an American former professional basketball player. He played college basketball at Pepperdine University. Mychel comes from a famous basketball family. His father, Mychal Thompson, and brother, Klay Thompson, are also well-known basketball players.

Early Life and Family
Mychel Thompson was born in Los Angeles, California, on June 1, 1988. His parents are Mychal and Julie Thompson. Mychel's father, Mychal Thompson, was a top pick in the 1978 NBA draft. He played in the NBA for 14 years. His teams included the Portland Trail Blazers and the Los Angeles Lakers.
Mychel has two younger brothers. His brother, Klay Thompson, also played college basketball. Klay was drafted by the Golden State Warriors in 2011. His youngest brother, Trayce Thompson, plays professional baseball. Trayce was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in 2009. All three brothers were raised Catholic.
Mychel played high school basketball in Oregon for two years. He then finished high school at Santa Margarita Catholic High School in California. After high school, he played one year at Stoneridge Prep. There, he averaged about 5 points and 3 rebounds per game.
College Basketball Career
Mychel Thompson was a promising player when he started college. He chose to play for Pepperdine University.
Freshman Year at Pepperdine
In his first year, Mychel started 24 out of 32 games. He scored an average of 8.1 points per game. He was great at shooting three-pointers. He made 56 three-pointers, leading his team. He also made a three-pointer in 30 of the 32 games he played. His highest score that season was 22 points against Northern Arizona.
Sophomore Year at Pepperdine
During his second year, Mychel started 30 games. He averaged 9.6 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. He once again led his team in three-pointers made. In the first game of the season, he scored a season-high 25 points.
Junior Year at Pepperdine
As a junior, Mychel's game improved even more. He averaged 11.8 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. He was named to the All–West Coast Conference honorable mention team. For the third year in a row, he led his team in three-pointers. He tied his career-high of 25 points against the Utah Utes. He also scored 22 points in a game where he made six of seven three-point shots.
Senior Year at Pepperdine
In his final year at Pepperdine, Mychel was a team leader. He averaged 14.6 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. He led the team in both categories. He also led the team in three-pointers for the fourth straight season. He scored a career-high 34 points against the Nevada Wolf Pack. In another game, he scored 31 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. This was a rare achievement for a Pepperdine player. Mychel finished his college career with 1,413 points. This ranks him 14th in school history. He also played in a school record 128 games. His 192 three-pointers are the fourth highest in Pepperdine history.
Professional Basketball Career
After college, Mychel Thompson began his professional career.
Starting in the D-League
Mychel was not chosen in the 2011 NBA draft. However, he was picked by the Erie BayHawks in the NBA Development League (now called the G-League). This league helps players develop their skills.
Time with the Cleveland Cavaliers
In December 2011, Mychel signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers of the NBA. He played in five games for the Cavaliers. In February 2012, he returned to the Erie BayHawks.
Playing for the Santa Cruz Warriors
In 2013, Mychel joined the Santa Cruz Warriors. This team is the D-League partner of the NBA's Golden State Warriors. While playing for Santa Cruz, Mychel played alongside Seth Curry. Seth's brother, Steph, played for the Golden State Warriors. Mychel's brother, Klay Thompson, also played for the Golden State Warriors. Because of this, Mychel and Seth were called the "Splash Brothers of the D-League." This was a fun nickname, like the famous "Splash Brothers" nickname for Klay and Steph.
In 2015, Mychel won the D-League championship with the Santa Cruz Warriors. This was a big achievement for him and his team.
Playing in Italy
In 2015, Mychel played basketball in Italy for Pallacanestro Varese. He played in several league games and international cup games. He later returned to the Santa Cruz Warriors in 2016.
Mychel Thompson retired from professional basketball in 2018.
International Play
