History of Myrtlewood
Myrtlewood has had a post office since 1886. A post office is where people send and receive mail. The town officially became a town in 1957. This means it got its own local government. Myrtlewood got its name from many crepe myrtle trees. These beautiful trees grew near where the town first started.
Myrtlewood's Location and Land
Myrtlewood is in the western part of Marengo County. You can find it along Alabama State Route 114. It is about 11 miles (18 km) southwest of Linden. Linden is the main city, or county seat, of Marengo County. Myrtlewood is also about 7 miles (11 km) northeast of Pennington. Pennington is in a different county called Choctaw County.
The town covers an area of about 2.6 square miles (6.7 square kilometers). All of this area is land. Myrtlewood sits on high ground. It is about 100 feet (30 meters) above the valley of the Tombigbee River. This river flows southwards about 3 miles (5 km) to the west of the town.
