NHS Ayrshire and Arran is a part of NHS Scotland. It helps look after the health of people in the Ayrshire and Arran area. It started on 1 April 2004. This organization provides healthcare and social care for nearly 400,000 people. They manage a large budget to pay for all these services.

How NHS Ayrshire and Arran Helps You
NHS Ayrshire and Arran has many dedicated staff. About 6,000 people work in their hospitals. Another 2,500 staff work in local communities.
They also make sure you get care from:
- 300 general practitioners (GPs) and their teams at 90 different places.
- 98 local pharmacies where you can get medicines.
- 160 dentists at over 70 dental clinics.
- 60 eye care places (called ophthalmic practices).

Emergency Departments (EDs)
Only three hospitals in NHS Ayrshire and Arran have an emergency department (ED). These used to be called Accident and Emergency (A&E). University Hospital Crosshouse has a large ED that opened in the early 2000s.
University Hospital Ayr also has an emergency department. There were plans to move this department, but it stayed open. The Arran War Memorial Hospital on the Isle of Arran also has an emergency department.
A new special hospital for young people's mental health is planned. It will be called Foxgrove. It is expected to open in 2022 at Ayrshire Central Hospital Campus in Irvine.
How Well They Are Doing
NHS Ayrshire and Arran works hard to provide good care. In May 2015, 88% of patients visiting the EDs were seen within four hours. This was a goal set for all health boards.
In 2016, they started three community wards. These wards helped manage patients with heart problems and diabetes. This new approach helped reduce emergency hospital visits by 40% in just six months.
In April 2017, Nicola McIvor won an award for being the "Caterer of the Year." She works in the hospital's food service department. Her department also won an award for staff health and wellbeing.
