Nadja Tiller (born March 16, 1929 – died February 21, 2023) was a famous actress from Austria. She was very popular in the 1950s and 1960s, starring in many international movies, especially those made in German.

Nadja Tiller's Early Life and Career Beginnings

Nadja Tiller was born in Vienna, Austria. Her father, Anton Tiller, was an actor. Her mother, Erika Tiller, was an opera singer and actress from Danzig.

Nadja went to a secondary school in Vienna. In 1945, she started studying acting at the Max-Reinhardt-Seminar. She continued her studies until 1949 at the Musik- und Schauspielakademie.

In the same year, she joined the acting group at the Theater in der Josefstadt. Also in 1949, she won the Miss Austria competition, which is a beauty pageant for young women in Austria. Her first big movie role was in 1952 in a film called Märchen vom Glück (Good Luck Fairytale).

Becoming an International Film Star

In 1955, Nadja Tiller acted with O. W. Fischer in the movie Ich suche Dich. This film was based on a play by A. J. Cronin.

Her biggest success around the world came in 1958. She played the role of Rosemarie Nitribitt in the German movie Rosemary. This role made her very famous.

Nadja Tiller appeared in over 70 films. Many of these were international movies. She worked with many famous actors like Jean Gabin, Yul Brynner, Robert Mitchum, and Jean-Paul Belmondo. At the peak of her career, people thought she was one of the most charming actresses in European movies, similar to Sophia Loren.

Theater and Later Career

Nadja Tiller also performed on stage. In 1967 and 1968, she acted in the play Jedermann (Everyman) at the yearly Salzburg Festival.

In the 1970s and 1980s, she had regular theater jobs in cities like Lübeck, Berlin, and Vienna. She played the main female role in the Kurt-Weill musical Lady in the Dark in Lübeck (1976) and Vienna (1981).

In the 1980s, she helped advertise the Mon Chéri chocolates made by the Italian company Ferrero. She continued to act in popular plays until the late 1990s. In 1997, she played an older Joan Crawford in a play called Besuch bei Joan. This play was later made into a TV movie.

Later, she took on occasional main roles and made guest appearances in different TV shows. After not being in movies for a long time, she was cast in the 2005 road movie Barfuss by Til Schweiger. In 2009, she appeared in the comedy film Dinosaurier – Gegen uns seht ihr alt aus! [de].

From September to October 2010, Nadja Tiller was a guest star in the play Vor uns die Sintflut. She played the role of the "greatest diva of all time." From January to April 2015, she acted in the musical My Fair Lady as Mrs. Higgins. She played this role again in the 2015-16 season.

Family Life and Later Years

Nadja Tiller married actor Walter Giller in 1956. They had two children: a daughter born in 1959 and a son born in 1964. Walter Giller passed away in 2011.

Nadja Tiller and her husband Walter Giller received a special Bambi award together on November 30, 2006. This award was for their work throughout their lives. In 2008, they moved into a retirement home in Hamburg.

Nadja Tiller passed away on February 21, 2023, in Hamburg, Germany.
