Natalia Cordova-Buckley is a talented actress from Mexico and the United States. She is most famous for playing Elena "Yo-Yo" Rodriguez, also known as Slingshot, in the superhero TV show Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. This popular show was on the ABC channel from 2013 to 2020.

Growing Up

Natalia Cordova-Buckley was born in Mexico City. She grew up in a beautiful place called Cancún. Her grandfather, Pancho Córdova, was also an actor in Mexican and American movies. Natalia never had the chance to meet him.

When she was younger, Natalia trained to be a ballet dancer. She learned from a famous dance teacher named Fernando Alonso. But Natalia found ballet too strict. She decided she wanted to be an actress instead. She had thought about acting before, but she was teased about her voice when she was a kid. She once said that other kids would say she "screamed like a Godzilla." She also had a very strong personality and always spoke her mind.

At 17, Natalia moved to the U.S. She was accepted into a special high school program for fine arts at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. After finishing high school, she went on to study theater at the California Institute of the Arts.

Natalia's Acting Journey

Natalia Cordova-Buckley started her acting career in a Mexican comedy-drama TV show called Los simuladores (2008–2009). After that, she had smaller parts in several Spanish-language movies. These included Sucedió en un día (2010) and Lluvia de Luna (2011). Her first main role in a movie was in the drama Ventanas al mar (2012). She acted alongside experienced actors like Charo López and Fernando Guillén in that film.

Becoming a Star in the U.S.

Natalia got her first acting job in an American movie in 2015. It was a sports drama called McFarland, USA, where she acted with Kevin Costner. She almost stopped acting completely before she got the role of Elena "Yo-Yo" Rodriguez in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. This superhero show made her much more well-known.

During the show's fourth season, Natalia starred in a short online series. It was called Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Slingshot. This mini-series came out on December 13, 2016. It was even nominated for a special award called the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Short Form Comedy or Drama Series.

In 2017, Natalia appeared as a lawyer named Julia Ramos in the TV show Bates Motel. She worked with actors like Vera Farmiga and Freddie Highmore in that show. Also in 2017, she lent her voice to the character of the famous artist Frida Kahlo in the Disney-Pixar animated movie Coco. This movie was a huge success and won an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.

In 2018, Natalia played Det. Gavras in the crime movie Destroyer. She acted opposite Nicole Kidman in this film.
