This list presents the full set of buildings, structures, objects, sites, or districts designated on the National Register of Historic Places in Southeast Portland, Oregon, and offers brief descriptive information about each of them. The National Register recognizes places of national, state, or local historic significance across the United States. Out of over 90,000 National Register sites nationwide, Oregon is home to over 2,000, and over one-fourth of those are found partially or wholly in Portland. While these sites are widely spread across all six of Portland's quadrants, heavy concentrations are found in the Downtown and Southwest Hills neighborhoods of the Southwest quadrant, and the Northwest District neighborhood of the Northwest quadrant.

Only historic places within the municipal boundaries of Portland are shown in this list and its four companion lists for the other quadrants. Some sites beyond city limits will appear in other lists showing "Portland" as a general locality, but are excluded here. Although Portland's legal boundaries extend into Clackamas and Washington counties, all of the city's National Register sites lie within Multnomah County.

Historic Buildings and Landmarks in Southeast Portland

Southeast Portland is home to many buildings and sites that have been preserved because of their historical importance. These places help us understand how the city grew and changed over time.

Cool Houses with History

Many of the historic places are old homes that belonged to important people or show interesting building styles.

H. Russell Albee House

The H. Russell Albee House was added to the National Register of Historic Places on October 22, 1992. You can find this house at 3360 SE Ankeny Street. It's located in Multnomah County, Oregon.

Louis J. Bader House and Garden

The Louis J. Bader House and Garden is another historic home. It was listed on October 30, 1989. This house is at 3604 SE Oak Street in Multnomah County, Oregon.

Gustave Bartman House

The Gustave Bartman House became a historic place on March 8, 1989. It is located at 1817 SE 12th Avenue. This house is also in Multnomah County, Oregon.

William E. Brainard House

The William E. Brainard House was built in 1888. It's a beautiful example of Italianate architecture. This house is one of the few grand homes left from the late 1800s. Back then, Mount Tabor was a very fancy neighborhood in Portland. Many important business people lived here, including William E. Brainard, who was a farmer, real estate investor, and banker. Later, a stockbroker, an investment banker, and a dentist also lived in this house. It was added to the Register on March 1, 1979. You can find it at 5332 SE Morrison Street.

Buckler–Henry House

The Buckler–Henry House was built in 1891 by John Buckler for Charles K. Henry. Charles Henry was important because he planned out the neighborhood in 1890. This house is one of the few brick homes from the 1800s left in Portland. A famous person named Grace Olivier Peck lived here later. She served in the Oregon House of Representatives for 22 years! The house was listed on February 12, 1980, and is at 2324 SE Ivon Street.

Philip Buehner House

The Philip Buehner House was added to the Register on October 24, 1980. It's located at 5511 SE Hawthorne Boulevard.

Walter F. Burrell House

The Walter F. Burrell House was listed on October 25, 1990. It is at 2610 SE Hawthorne Boulevard.

Samuel Cobb House

The Samuel Cobb House became a historic site on May 20, 1999. You can find it at 1314 SE 55th Avenue.

Edward D. Dupont House

The Edward D. Dupont House was listed on March 8, 1989. It is at 3326 SE Main Street.

Franklin W. Farrer House

The Franklin W. Farrer House was added to the Register on March 8, 1989. It is located at 2706 SE Yamhill Street.

William D. Fenton House

The William D. Fenton House was listed on August 29, 1979. It is at 626 SE 16th Avenue.

Thaddeus Fisher House

The Thaddeus Fisher House was added on March 8, 1989. It is located at 913–915 SE 33rd Avenue.

Elizabeth B. Gowanlock House

The Elizabeth B. Gowanlock House was listed on March 8, 1989. It is at 808 SE 28th Avenue.

Harry A. and Ada Green House

Clarence H. Jones House

The Clarence H. Jones House was listed on March 8, 1989. It is at 1834 SE Ankeny Street.

Joseph Kendall House

The Joseph Kendall House was added on August 29, 1979. It is at 3908–3916 SE Taggart Street.

Wilhelmina Mohle House

The Wilhelmina Mohle House was listed on March 8, 1989. It is at 734 SE 34th Avenue.

William O. Munsell House

The William O. Munsell House was added on March 8, 1989. It is at 1507 SE Alder Street.

Paul C. Murphy House

The Paul C. Murphy House was listed on February 28, 1991. It is at 3574 E Burnside Street.

Otto W. and Ida L. Nelson House

The Otto W. and Ida L. Nelson House was added on August 2, 2001. It is at 203 SE 15th Avenue.

Capt. George Raabe House

The Capt. George Raabe House was listed on March 8, 1989. It is at 1506–1508 SE Taylor Street.

Jessie M. Raymond House

The Jessie M. Raymond House was added on March 8, 1989. It is at 2944 SE Taylor Street.

Blaine Smith House

The Blaine Smith House was listed on June 19, 1991. It is at 5219 SE Belmont Street.

The James B. Stephens House was added on February 21, 1997. It is at 1825 SE 12th Avenue.

Herman Vetter House

The Herman Vetter House was listed on June 4, 1992. It is at 5830 SE Taylor Street.

Wells–Guthrie House

The Wells–Guthrie House was added on February 23, 1990. It is at 6651 SE Scott Drive.

Arleta Branch Library

The Arleta Branch Library was added to the Register on March 15, 2016. It is located at 4420 SE 64th Avenue.

Auto Freight Transport Building of Oregon and Washington

This building was listed on June 30, 2005. It is at 1001 SE Water Avenue.

Bagdad Theatre

The Bagdad Theatre became a historic place on March 8, 1989. You can find it at 3702–3726 SE Hawthorne Boulevard. It's a popular spot for movies and events.

Barber Block

The Barber Block was listed on February 15, 1977. It is at 532–538 SE Grand Avenue.

Blake McFall Company Building

The Blake McFall Company Building was added on March 9, 1990. It is at 215 SE Ankeny Street.

Burrell Heights Apartments

The Burrell Heights Apartments were listed on February 21, 1997. They are at 2903–2919 SE Clay Street.

John Deere Plow Company Building

The John Deere Plow Company Building was added on March 8, 1989. It is at 215 SE Morrison Street.

Douglas Building

The Douglas Building was listed on March 8, 1989. It is at 3525–3541 SE Hawthorne Boulevard.

East Portland Branch, Public Library of Multnomah County

This library building was designed by Portland architect A.E. Doyle. It was built in 1911 with money from the Carnegie Foundation. It was one of the first public library branches outside of downtown Portland. Today, it has been changed into an office building. It was listed on September 8, 1987. You can find it at 1110 SE Alder Street.

East Portland Grand Avenue Historic District

This entire area is a historic district! It includes buildings along SE Grand Avenue, bounded by SE Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, SE Ankeny Street, SE 7th Avenue, and SE Main Street. It was listed on March 4, 1991.

Enterprise Planing Mill

The Enterprise Planing Mill was added on March 2, 2006. It is at 50 SE Yamhill Street.

Eugenia Apartments

The Eugenia Apartments were listed on March 8, 1989. They are at 1314 SE Salmon Street.

Frances Building and Echo Theater

The Frances Building and Echo Theater were added on January 28, 1994. They are located at 3628–3646 SE Hawthorne Boulevard.

Frigidaire Building

The Frigidaire Building was listed on March 8, 1989. It is at 230 E Burnside Street.

Genoa Building

The Genoa Building was added on June 13, 1997. It is at 2832 SE Belmont Street.

Thomas Graham Building

The Thomas Graham Building was listed on March 5, 1992. It is at 6031 SE Stark Street.

Grand Central Public Market

The Grand Central Public Market was added on November 15, 2006. It is at 808 SE Morrison Street.

International Harvester Company Warehouse

The International Harvester Company Warehouse was listed on March 8, 1989. It is at 79 SE Taylor Street.

Italian Gardeners and Ranchers Association Market Building

This building was added on March 8, 1989. It is at 1305–1337 SE Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Jones Cash Store

The Jones Cash Store was listed on October 4, 2005. It is at 111 SE Belmont Street.

F. M. Knight Building

The F. M. Knight Building was added on March 8, 1989. It is at 3300 SE Belmont Street.

Nettie Krouse Fourplex

The Nettie Krouse Fourplex was listed on March 8, 1989. It is at 2106–2112 SE Main Street.

Henry Kuehle Investment Property

The Henry Kuehle Investment Property was added on March 8, 1989. It is at 201–213 SE 12th Avenue.

Ladd's Addition Historic District

Ladd's Addition is a whole historic neighborhood! It's bounded by SE Division Street, SE Hawthorne Boulevard, and SE 12th and 20th Avenues. It was listed on August 31, 1988. This area is famous for its unique street layout, which is different from the usual grid pattern in Portland.

Laurelhurst Manor Apartments

The Laurelhurst Manor Apartments were added on October 3, 1996. They are at 3100 SE Ankeny Street.

George P. Lent Investment Properties

These properties were listed on March 8, 1989. They are at 1921–1927 SE 7th Avenue and 621–637 SE Harrison Street.

Mizpah Presbyterian Church of East Portland

The Mizpah Presbyterian Church of East Portland was added on May 19, 1983. It is at 2456–2462 SE Tamarack Avenue.

Monastery of the Precious Blood

The Monastery of the Precious Blood was listed on February 14, 1985. It is at 1208 SE 76th Avenue.

New Logus Block

The New Logus Block was added on February 1, 1980. It is at 523–535 SE Grand Avenue.

Olympic Cereal Mill

The Olympic Cereal Mill was listed on March 8, 1989. It is at 107 SE Washington Street.

Oregon Portland Cement Building

The Oregon Portland Cement Building was added on March 8, 1989. It is at 111 SE Madison Street.

Oriental Apartments

The Oriental Apartments were listed on October 15, 1992. They are at 3562 SE Harrison Street.

Osborn Hotel

The Osborn Hotel was added on March 27, 1980. It is at 203–207 SE Grand Avenue.

Palestine Lodge

The Palestine Lodge was listed on October 4, 2005. It is at 6401 SE Foster Road.

Martin Parelius Fourplex

The Martin Parelius Fourplex was added on March 8, 1989. It is at 423–439 SE 28th Avenue.

Charles Piper Building

The Charles Piper Building was listed on March 8, 1989. It is at 3610–3624 SE Hawthorne Boulevard.

James S. Polhemus House

The James S. Polhemus House was added on March 8, 1989. It is at 135 SE 16th Avenue.

Portland Fire Station No. 7

Portland Fire Station No. 7 was listed on May 8, 1989. It is at 1036 SE Stark Street.

Portland Fire Station No. 23

Portland Fire Station No. 23 was added on May 8, 1989. It is at 1917 SE 7th Avenue.

Portland General Electric Company Station "L" Group

This group of buildings was listed on December 2, 1985. It is at 1841 SE Water Street.

Portland Railway, Light and Power Sellwood Division Carbarn Office and Clubhouse

This building was added on June 20, 2002. It is at 8825 SE 11th Avenue.

Johan Poulsen House

The Johan Poulsen House was listed on March 14, 1977. It is at 3040 SE McLoughlin Boulevard.

St. John's Episcopal Church

St. John's Episcopal Church was added on December 27, 1974. It is at 455 SE Spokane Street.

San Farlando Apartments

The San Farlando Apartments were listed on February 21, 1997. They are at 2903–2925 SE Hawthorne Boulevard.

Santa Barbara Apartments

The Santa Barbara Apartments were added on March 8, 1989. They are at 2052 SE Hawthorne Boulevard.

Sellwood Branch YMCA

The Sellwood Branch YMCA was listed on November 15, 2006. It is at 1436 SE Spokane Street.

Henry Sensel Building

The Henry Sensel Building was added on March 8, 1989. It is at 3556–3562 SE Hawthorne Boulevard.

Troy Laundry Building

The Troy Laundry Building was listed on March 8, 1989. It is at 1025 SE Pine Street.

John M. Wallace Fourplex

The John M. Wallace Fourplex was added on May 8, 1989. It is at 3645–3655 SE Yamhill Street.

Washington High School

Washington High School was listed on November 9, 2015. It is at 1300 SE Stark Street.

Alfred Webb Investment Properties

These properties were added on March 8, 1989. They are at 822 SE 15th Avenue and 1503–1517 SE Belmont Street.

Nathaniel West Buildings

The Nathaniel West Buildings were listed on April 26, 1984. They are at 711–719 SE Grand Avenue.

West's Block

West's Block was added on October 10, 1980. It is at 701–707 SE Grand Avenue.

Yale Union Laundry Building

The Yale Union Laundry Building was listed on July 19, 2007. It is at 800 SE 10th Avenue.

Bridges and Parks

Some of Portland's most famous landmarks are its bridges and parks, which also hold important historical value.

Burnside Bridge

The Burnside Bridge spans the Willamette River at river mile 12.7. It was added to the Register on November 14, 2012. It's part of a larger group of historic bridges in Portland.

Hawthorne Bridge

The Hawthorne Bridge also crosses the Willamette River, at river mile 13.1. It was listed on November 14, 2012, and is another part of Portland's historic river bridges.

Morrison Bridge

The Morrison Bridge is another historic bridge over the Willamette River, at river mile 12.8. It was added to the Register on November 14, 2012, as part of the same group as the Burnside and Hawthorne Bridges.

Laurelhurst Park

Laurelhurst Park is a beautiful green space listed on February 16, 2001. It is located at 3554 SE Ankeny Street. It's a great place to relax and enjoy nature.

Mount Tabor Park

Mount Tabor Park is a large historic district roughly bounded by SE Division Street, SE 60th Avenue, SE Yamhill Street, and SE Mountainview Drive. It was listed on September 22, 2004. This park is unique because it's built on an extinct volcano!

Mount Tabor Park Reservoirs Historic District

Within Mount Tabor Park, there's a special historic district for the reservoirs. These old reservoirs helped provide water to Portland for many years. It was listed on January 15, 2004, and is at 1900 SE Reservoir Loop.

Other Unique Historic Sites

Southeast Portland also has some truly one-of-a-kind historic listings.

USS Blueback (submarine)

The USS Blueback is a real submarine! It was launched in 1959 and was the very last non-nuclear submarine to join the U.S. Navy. It's a Barbel-class diesel-electric submarine. It was listed on September 18, 2008, and is moored on the east bank of the Willamette River, at 1495 SE Water Avenue. You can even visit it!

Herschell–Spillman Noah's Ark Carousel

This amazing carousel was listed on August 26, 1987. It is located at 5 SE Spokane Street. It's a fun piece of history!

Gatehouse, Portland City Reservoir No. 2

This historic gatehouse was added on June 1, 1990. It is at 6007 SE Division Street.

Lone Fir Cemetery

Lone Fir Cemetery is a pioneer cemetery that was officially started in 1855. However, the oldest burial there dates back to 1846! It's the final resting place for many different people from Portland's past, including important citizens and over 1,100 early Chinese American immigrants. It was listed on August 16, 2007. You can find it at 2115 SE Morrison Street.

Claude Hayes Miller House

The Claude Hayes Miller House was listed on May 20, 1999. It is at 13051 SE Claybourne Street.

Spokane, Portland and Seattle 700

The Spokane, Portland and Seattle Railway Steam Locomotive (SP&S 700) is a very special train! It was built in 1938 and is still fully working today. It shows how amazing steam locomotive technology was at the end of the "Age of Steam." In 2006, it was the third-largest and second-most powerful steam locomotive still around in the world. It was listed on January 25, 2006, and is located at the Oregon Rail Heritage Center, 2250 SE Water Avenue.

Willamette National Cemetery

The Willamette National Cemetery is a historic cemetery listed on July 5, 2016. It is at 11800 SE Mount Scott Boulevard.
