Nelsonville is a small village in Putnam County, New York. It is part of the town of Philipstown. In 2020, about 624 people lived there.
Nelsonville is located in the Hudson Highlands. It sits just east of the village of Cold Spring. Both villages are known for their beautiful, historic homes.
Many people from New York City visit Nelsonville. They come for weekend trips or to see the amazing fall leaves. The village is also a starting point for several popular hiking trails. These trails go through the scenic Hudson Highlands. You can reach Nelsonville by train at the Cold Spring stop. This station is on the Hudson Line of the Metro-North Railroad.

History of Nelsonville
Nelsonville got its name from the Nelson family. They were some of the first people to live in this area.
A big factory called the West Point Foundry was very important to the village. It helped many residents find jobs. Nelsonville officially became a village in 1855. A post office opened in the village in 1888.
Geography and Location
Nelsonville is located in New York. Its exact coordinates are 41°25′28″N 73°56′39″W / 41.42444°N 73.94417°W.
The village covers about 1.0 square mile (2.6 square kilometers) of land. There is no water area within the village limits.
Just north of Nelsonville, you will find a mountain called Mount Taurus. Local people often call it Bull Hill.
