Nervesa della Battaglia has an important history. In 1358, a big battle happened here. The Republic of Venice fought against King Louis I of Hungary and lost. This loss made Venice sign a difficult peace agreement called the Treaty of Zadar.
The town's name, "della Battaglia," means "of the battle." This part of its name was added because of a major battle during World War I. The Battle of the Piave River took place nearby. Italian officers inspected the town after Italian forces took it back in 1918.
