Neurum is a small, quiet town and area in Queensland, Australia. It is part of the City of Moreton Bay. In 2021, about 178 people lived in Neurum.
Where is Neurum?
Neurum is located about 65 kilometers (which is about 40 miles) north of Brisbane. Brisbane is the capital city of Queensland.
The northern edge of Neurum is marked by the Stanley River. To the east, you'll find natural forests and hills. One of these hills is Neurum Mountain. It is part of a large nature reserve, which helps protect the local environment.
A Look Back: Neurum's History
The town of Neurum got its name from Neurum Creek. The word "Neurum" comes from the Waka language, specifically the Dungidau dialect. It means "warts, sores, or pock marks."
A school called Neurum Creek Provisional School first opened its doors on August 2, 1880. It later became Neurum Creek State School on January 1, 1909. This school closed around 1942.
Neurum also had its own post office. It opened on December 11, 1880. For a while, between 1887 and 1913, it was known as Neurum Creek Post Office. The post office eventually closed in 1957.
