Villeneuve is located in a lovely area. The D'Aguilar Highway runs along its northern edge. To the east and south, you'll find the Stanley River and Lake Somerset. This lake was formed by the Somerset Dam, which holds back the Stanley River's water.

The land in Villeneuve is used for a mix of things. Some people live in homes with big yards, especially near the lake. Other areas are used for grazing animals like cattle on the natural grasslands.

Years ago, a railway line called the Kilcoy railway line used to go through Villeneuve. There were two train stations here, but they are no longer standing:

  • Villeneuve railway station
  • Royston railway station

The town of Villeneuve got its name from its old railway station. The station was named after Frank Villeneuve Nicholson, who owned a property called Villeneuve.

Farming started in Villeneuve in the late 1870s. People worked hard on the land to grow crops and raise animals.

Over the years, Villeneuve had a couple of schools.

  • The first Villeneuve Provisional School opened in 1887. It shared a building with the local Anglican Church.
  • In 1902, this school moved and was renamed West Vale Provisional School.

A second Villeneuve Provisional School was built in 1902. This school later became Villeneuve State School in 1900. It taught children in the area until it closed in 1960. This school was located very close to the Villeneuve railway station.

A big change happened when the Somerset Dam was finished in 1958. Because of the dam, some parts of Villeneuve are now covered by water.
