Sandy Creek has some interesting history. An old school, Winya State School, opened in 1918. It taught children for many years before closing in 1960. The school was located on Sandy Creek Road.
Hubners Bridge is an important bridge on Sandy Creek Road. It crosses over Sandy Creek. In 2011, a huge flood washed the bridge away. This made it hard for people to get around.
To help the stranded residents, a special "flying-fox" (like a zip line for supplies) was built across the creek. It carried food and other important items. The bridge was rebuilt and reopened in 2012.
