Winya is a small rural area in the Somerset Region of Queensland, Australia. It's a quiet place with natural beauty. In 2021, about 127 people lived in Winya.

Exploring Winya's Geography
Winya is surrounded by interesting natural features. Sandy Creek and Kilcoy Creek form parts of its eastern border. To the south, Winya reaches into the waters of Somerset Dam when the dam is full. The Kilcoy Weir is also found where Winya meets Mount Kilcoy in the north.
The main road, the D'Aguilar Highway, runs right through Winya, making it easy to travel to and from the area. There's also a small place called Kilcoy Airfield in the south, which is used for fun flying activities.
A Look Back at Winya's History
Winya has a long history, with people settling here as early as 1841. The famous Kilcoy Homestead was built in Winya in the 1850s, marking an important time for the area.
For a while, Winya had its own school. Winya State School opened in 1918 but closed its doors in 1960. The old school site is now in the nearby area of Sandy Creek.
Trains used to be a big part of life in Winya too! The Kilcoy railway line reached Winya in 1913, and there was even a Winya railway station. However, the train service stopped in 1964.

Winya's Economy and Jobs
A big part of Winya's economy is the Kilcoy Pastoral Company. This company runs a large meat processing factory (called an abattoir) in Winya. They send beef to over 20 different countries around the world! More than 750 people work there, making it one of the biggest beef processors in Australia.

Winya itself doesn't have any schools. Students living in Winya usually go to school in the nearby town of Kilcoy. Kilcoy State School is the closest primary school, and Kilcoy State High School is the nearest secondary school.
Fun Places and Amenities in Winya
Even though it's a small area, Winya has some places for recreation:
- The Kilcoy Airfield is a spot where people can enjoy recreational flying. It's not for big commercial planes.
