Exploring Mount Kilcoy's Landscape
Mount Kilcoy is located in a valley. A creek called Kilcoy Creek flows through this valley. The valley is at the southern end of the Conondale Range mountains.
A structure called Kilcoy Weir was built on the creek in Mount Kilcoy. It can hold a lot of water, up to 158 megalitres. That's enough water to fill about 63 Olympic-sized swimming pools!
The flat land along the creek is used for farming. The hillsides to the north, east, and west are still covered in trees and plants.
A Look at Mount Kilcoy's Past
The name Mount Kilcoy comes from a nearby mountain. The mountain was named after a large farm, or "pastoral station," started in 1842. This farm was set up by two brothers, Evan and Colin Mackenzie. They named it after a place called Kilcoy in Scotland.
Mount Kilcoy State School opened its doors on January 18, 1909. When it first started, it had one teacher and 26 students.
