Newcastle is a small community in Placer County, California. It's nestled in the Sierra Nevada foothills. Newcastle is about 8 miles (13 km) northeast of Rocklin. It is also 31 miles (50 km) northeast of Sacramento. The weather in Newcastle is usually mild in winter and warm in summer. In 2010, about 1,224 people lived here.

A Glimpse into Newcastle's Past
Newcastle was founded in the 1800s. Regular freight and passenger trains started running to Newcastle on June 10, 1864. This was part of the first 31 miles of the Central Pacific Railroad's line.
This area is also near where the "gold country" began. In the mid-1800s, many miners searched for gold here. However, Newcastle was more famous for its fruit orchards than for gold mines. The Newcastle post office opened in 1864.
