(Jenico) Nicholas Dudley Preston, 17th Viscount Gormanston was born on 19 November 1939. He is an important member of an old Irish and British noble family. He used to be a British hereditary peer, which means he inherited his title. Because of this, he was a member of the House of Lords (as Baron Gormanston) until 1999.
Lord Gormanston holds the highest rank of viscount in the Peerage of Ireland. This special title was first created way back in 1478!
About His Family
Nicholas was the only son of the 16th Viscount Gormanston, who was a Captain in the army. His father was sadly killed in 1940 during the Battle of France in World War II. Because of this, Nicholas became the Viscount before his first birthday.
His family has some interesting history! His great-grandmother was a famous Victorian painter named Elizabeth Thompson. His great-grandfather was a brave general named Sir William Butler. On his father's side, his great-grandfather, the 14th Viscount Gormanston, was a diplomat.
His School Days
Like many in his family, Lord Gormanston is a Roman Catholic. He went to a special school called Downside School in Somerset, England. He also really enjoys art.
Gormanston Castle
The family's old home was Gormanston Castle in County Meath, Ireland. In 1947, the castle was sold to a religious group called the Franciscans. It then became a school known as Gormanston College.
His Life Today
In 1974, Viscount Gormanston married Eva-Antonie Landzianowska. They had two sons:
- Hon. Jenico Francis Tara Preston, born in 1974. He is the next in line to inherit the title. He works in business and is married to Kelly Catherine Reade. They have one son:
- (Jenico Bertram Nicholas) Alfred Preston, born in 2016. He is next in line after his father.
- Hon. William Luke Preston, born in 1976. He married Victoria Christensen in 2016.
Later, in 1997, Viscount Gormanston married Lucy Arabella Fox. Her father is the well-known actor Edward Fox.
Lord and Lady Gormanston now live in Kensington, a part of London.
