Nickelodeon or Nick UK is a TV channel for kids. It shows lots of fun programmes. This channel is available in the United Kingdom and Ireland. It is run by two companies: ViacomCBS Networks UK & Australia and Sky Group.

The UK and Ireland version of Nickelodeon started on 1 September 1993. It was the very first Nickelodeon channel to launch outside of the United States. You can watch it on different TV services like Sky and Virgin Media.

Who Owns Nickelodeon UK?

The Nickelodeon channels in the UK and Ireland are owned by two main companies. These are Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) and Sky plc. They work together as a joint company called Nickelodeon UK Ltd. VIMN owns most of the company, about 60%.

Other Nickelodeon Channels

Nickelodeon has several other channels for different age groups. These are called sister channels.

Nick Jr.

Nick Jr. is a channel made for younger children, like toddlers and preschoolers. It first appeared in the UK and Ireland in 1995. Back then, it was a special block of shows on the main Nickelodeon channel. These shows played on weekdays from 9 AM to 3 PM.

On 1 September 1999, Nick Jr. became its own full-time channel. This meant it could show programmes all day long.

Nicktoons

Nicktoons is another channel that launched on 22 July 2002. It focuses on cartoons, especially those made by Nickelodeon. You can watch popular shows like SpongeBob SquarePants and Horrid Henry on Nicktoons.

Nick Jr. Too

Nick Jr. Too started on 24 April 2006. It also shows programmes for young children, just like Nick Jr. However, it has a different schedule. This means you can find your favourite Nick Jr. shows playing at different times on this channel.

Timeshift Channels: Nick +1 and Nick Jr. +1

Sometimes, you might miss a show. That's where "timeshift" channels come in handy. These channels show the same programmes as the main channel, but one hour later.

  • Nick +1 launched on 1 September 1999. It shows Nickelodeon's programmes one hour later. It was first called Nick Replay but changed its name in 2012.
  • Nick Jr. +1 started on 2 October 2012. It shows Nick Jr. programmes one hour later.

Irish Channels

Since 2004, Nickelodeon has had a special version for Ireland. This means that the adverts you see on the channel are for Irish products and services. Nick Jr. also got an Irish version in 2006. In 2012, Nicktoons also launched an Irish version. Now, all Nickelodeon channels in Ireland show Irish adverts.

What Programmes Can You Watch?

Nickelodeon UK shows many different programmes. Some shows are made in the UK, like Genie in the House and Summer in Transylvania. They also have a show called Camp Orange.

Most of the shows you see on Nickelodeon UK come from other countries. Many are from the main Nickelodeon channel in the US. Others come from Canada's YTV or Australia's Network Ten. For example, House of Anubis was filmed in the UK but was first shown in the US.

Kids' Choice Awards

The Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards are a big event where kids vote for their favourite stars, movies, and shows. Before 2007, the UK and Ireland would just show the American awards ceremony.

In 2007 and 2008, Nickelodeon UK held its own full awards show in London. Kids in the UK and Ireland could vote for their own local categories. After 2009, the UK awards became smaller. Now, kids in the UK and Ireland vote for a few local awards. These are given out during the American ceremony, which is shown one day later.

Nickelodeon Land

Did you know there's a Nickelodeon theme park area in the UK? It's called Nickelodeon Land. It's part of the Blackpool Pleasure Beach resort in Blackpool. This area is six acres big and has rides and shops based on Nickelodeon shows. Nickelodeon Land opened in April 2011.
