Nicolás Colman was an English explorer and soldier who lived in the 1500s. He worked for the Spanish crown, which means the King and Queen of Spain. He was a conquistador, a Spanish word for a conqueror or explorer.

Colman was one of the sailors who traveled with Pedro de Mendoza. They went on an expedition to the Río de la Plata area in South America.

Early Life and Explorations

Nicolás Colman was born in Hampton, Kingdom of England. He was one of the few English sailors who joined the Spanish expeditions.

In 1536, he arrived at the Río de la Plata with Pedro de Mendoza's group. He helped establish the first settlement of Buenos Aires. Other English sailors like John Rute and Richard Limon were also with him.

Adventures in Paraguay

In 1537, Colman traveled to what is now Paraguay. He helped found the city of Asunción, which is the capital of Paraguay today.

Later, Nicolás Colman became a leader in the Guayrá region. This area was part of the Spanish colonies. He was involved in a situation where a local leader, Francisco de Mendoza, was removed from his position.

Colman was injured in a fight during his time as an explorer. In 1567, he became a regidor (a type of council member) in Ciudad Real del Guayrá. He also served as the governor of the Guayrá region.
