Nicotiana is a group of plants, also known as tobacco plants. They can be herbaceous plants (plants with soft stems) or shrubs (woody plants smaller than trees). You can find them growing naturally in places like the Americas, Australia, southwest Africa, and the South Pacific.
Many Nicotiana species are grown in gardens because they have pretty flowers. One very well-known species is N. tabacum. This plant is grown all over the world for its leaves, which are used to make tobacco.
