List of Ninjago episodes

Day of the Departed is a special TV episode from the Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu series. This show uses computer animation to bring its characters to life. It was created by Michael Hegner and Tommy Andreasen.

This special episode aired on October 29, 2016. It was released just before Halloween. Day of the Departed connects the story between the sixth season, Skybound, and the seventh season, Hands of Time.

This 45-minute Halloween special took the place of a second Ninjago season in 2016. This was because the creators were busy making The Lego Ninjago Movie, which came out in 2017. The special focuses on a special day in Ninjago called the Day of the Departed. This is a holiday where people remember their family and friends who have passed away.

The main story follows the ninja character Cole. He is worried about disappearing because he is still a ghost. Cole ends up battling the bad guy, Sensei Yang. While Cole is stuck in Yang's temple, the other ninja must fight evil spirits. These spirits were accidentally set free by Cole.

What Happens in the Story

Day of the Departed is a Halloween TV special. It takes place after the events of Season 6 and before Season 7. The Day of the Departed is a special holiday in Ninjago. People celebrate it to remember their ancestors and friends who have passed away.

On this day, the ninja split up to spend time with their families. Cole, who is still a ghost, visits the Ninjago History Museum. He notices that he is starting to fade away. After finding a special weapon called the Yin Blade, Cole decides to visit the floating Temple of Airjitzu. He wants to talk to the ghost of Master Yang.

At the temple, Cole accidentally uses the Yin Blade. This opens a portal to the Departed Realm. This portal releases the spirits of the ninja's old enemies! These include Samukai, Kozu, Cryptor, Chen, Morro, and Pythor. The spirits then take over their mannequins at the Ninjago History Museum. This brings the mannequins to life!

Cole gets trapped at the temple by Yang's ghost students. Yang tells the villains that they can stay in Ninjago. But first, they must defeat the ninja who beat them before. Yang takes the Yin Blade from Cole. He explains that he wants to use the blade to open the Rift of Return. This rift would allow him to become human again.

The ninja are attacked by their old enemies. But they manage to defeat them one by one. Meanwhile, Cole has to fight Yang's students. He follows Yang up to the temple roof. Yang tries to use Airjitzu to reach the Rift. But Cole stops him, and they fight.

When the ninja finally reunite, they realize they almost forgot about Cole. They quickly return to the Temple of Airjitzu. Cole is still battling Yang there. Seeing his friends gives Cole's spirit a boost. He then shatters the Yin Blade.

This act frees Yang's students. They are able to cross through the Rift and become human again. Yang tells Cole that he wanted to be remembered. Cole replies that Yang will be remembered as the creator of Airjitzu. They agree to cross through the Rift together. But as they go up, Yang decides to stay at the temple. He wants to make up for his past mistakes. Yang then launches Cole into the Rift.

The ninja soon discover that Cole has returned! He is now human again. They celebrate their friend's return. They also decide to use the Temple of Airjitzu as their new base.

On the Day of the Departed, Cole realizes his ghostly form is fading away. He goes to Yang's Temple, but accidentally opens a passage to the Departed Realm. This brings back the Ninja's old enemies (Samukai, Pythor, Kozu, Cryptor, Chen, and Morro). They possess mannequins in the Hall of Villainy. Yang tells the villains to go after the Ninja. He wants them to curse the Ninja to take their place in the Departed Realm. Cole finds that Yang is trying to bring himself back to life using the Rift of Return. Morro, instead of fighting Wu, warns him of Yang's plan. The Ninja defeat their enemies, reunite, and head to Yang's temple. Yang tells Cole he wanted to be immortal so he wouldn't be forgotten. But Cole assures Yang he'll be remembered as the creator of Airjitzu. Cole crosses through the rift and becomes human once more. The rift almost closes as he crosses, giving him a ghostly green scar on his face.
