Nora Creina is a small area, called a locality, in South Australia. It is located on the state's south-east coast. This area looks out over the Southern Ocean. Nora Creina is about 99 kilometres north-west of Mount Gambier. It is also about 290 kilometres south-east of Adelaide, the state capital.

Discovering Nora Creina: What's in a Name?

Nora Creina was first known as a place where people built simple shacks. The official borders for this area were set in 1997 and 1999. These borders include the original shack site and another area called Little Dip Shack Area.

How Nora Creina Got Its Name

The name "Nora Creina" comes from Nora Creina Bay, which is part of the locality. The bay was named after Nora Creina Bacon. She was the daughter of a British Army officer, Major General Anthony Bacon. Her husband, Charles Burney Young, was an early settler in the area.

Exploring the Geography of Nora Creina

Nora Creina is located along the coastline. To the north, it reaches the southern shore of Lake Robe. To the south, it is partly bordered by Lake George Road.

Natural Borders and Protected Areas

To the east, Nora Creina is bordered by Lake Eliza in the north. In the south, the Southern Ports Highway forms part of its eastern border. The locality also includes all of Lake St Clair.

Land Use and Conservation Efforts

Most of the land in Nora Creina is used for agriculture, like farming. However, a strip of land along the coast is set aside for conservation. This means it is protected to keep nature safe.

Parks and Settlements

This protected coastal area includes the Little Dip Conservation Park in the north. On the east side of Lake St Clair, you will find the Lake St Clair Conservation Park. There is also a small settlement located south-east of Nora Creina Bay.

In August 2016, a census was taken. The 2016 Australian census showed that Nora Creina had a population of 36 people. This number was counted together with a part of the nearby locality of Bray.
