Where is North Located?
North is in South Carolina. Its exact location is 33°36′58″N 81°6′13″W / 33.61611°N 81.10361°W. This means it is at 33.615983 degrees North and 81.103588 degrees West.
The United States Census Bureau says the town covers about 0.9 square miles (2.24 square kilometers). All of this area is land.
A Brief History of North
The town of North began thanks to the South Bound Railway Company. In 1891, this railway line was built through the area. A man named John F. North helped make this happen.
In 1892, John North worked with George W. Pou and Sampson A. Livingston. They gave 100 acres (about 40.5 hectares) of land. This land was used for the railway station and to build the new town. A U.S. Post Office was also opened there later.
The next year, John North became the first mayor of the town. He was a businessman and a veteran from the American Civil War. The town was named "North" in his honor. Some people think its name is a bit unusual!
