A Brief History of North

The town of North began thanks to the South Bound Railway Company. In 1891, this railway line was built through the area. A man named John F. North helped make this happen.

In 1892, John North worked with George W. Pou and Sampson A. Livingston. They gave 100 acres (about 40.5 hectares) of land. This land was used for the railway station and to build the new town. A U.S. Post Office was also opened there later.

The next year, John North became the first mayor of the town. He was a businessman and a veteran from the American Civil War. The town was named "North" in his honor. Some people think its name is a bit unusual!
