The North Branch Birch River is a river in Aroostook County, Maine, in the United States. It is about 9.6 miles (15.4 kilometers) long. This river is an important part of the natural landscape in northern Maine.

Where the River Flows

The North Branch Birch River starts from a small pond. This pond is located in Maine Township 16, Range 8, WELS. From its start, the river flows for about 6 miles (9.7 kilometers) towards the east. Then, it turns and flows about 3 miles (4.8 kilometers) to the south.

Joining Other Rivers

The North Branch Birch River eventually meets another river. It joins with the South Branch in the town of Eagle Lake. When these two rivers meet, they form the main Birch River.

Part of a Bigger System

The North Branch Birch River is part of a larger water system. It belongs to the Fish River watershed. A watershed is an area of land where all the water drains into a common river, lake, or ocean. The water from the Fish River watershed flows north into the Saint John River. The Saint John River then travels all the way to the Bay of Fundy. The Bay of Fundy is located in New Brunswick, Canada.
