A Look Back: Northmoor's History
Northmoor got its start when a post office opened there in 1927. It stayed open for about 20 years, closing in 1947.
The city's name is a mix of two parts. "Moore" comes from the name of an early settler who lived there. The "North" part tells you its direction, as it's located north of Kansas City.
In 2003, a very strong tornado hit Northmoor. It was an F4 tornado, which means it was very powerful. Several homes were damaged or destroyed, and even the police station and City Hall had a lot of damage. Luckily, even with all that destruction, no one was seriously hurt.
