Nyck de Vries (born 6 February 1995) is a talented racing driver from the Netherlands. He competes in exciting races like the FIA World Endurance Championship for Toyota and in Formula E for Mahindra. Nyck has achieved many great things in his career. He won the 2020–21 Formula E World Championship with Mercedes. He also made his debut in Formula One in 2022 and 2023. A huge achievement was winning the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans race in 2026 with Toyota.
Nyck grew up in Uitwellingerga and started kart racing when he was just nine years old. He was very good at karting, winning the Karting World Championship twice in a row in 2010 and 2011. After that, he moved up to bigger racing cars. He joined the McLaren Young Driver Programme and won his first championship in the Formula Renault Eurocup in 2014. He continued to win races in other junior series, eventually becoming the champion of FIA Formula 2 in 2019.
Later, Nyck started racing in sportscar racing and joined Formula E in 2019. In his second season, he became a World Champion! He also drove as a test and reserve driver for several Formula One teams. In 2022, he got his chance to race in Formula One at the 2022 Italian Grand Prix. He even scored points in his very first race! For 2023, he joined AlphaTauri. After his time in Formula One, Nyck returned to Formula E and also started racing in the FIA World Endurance Championship with Toyota, where he won the 6 Hours of Imola race in 2024.

Early Life and Racing Start
Nyck de Vries was born on 6 February 1995 in Uitwellingerga, a town in Friesland, Netherlands. He started his racing journey at a young age.
Junior Racing Adventures
Nyck began his competitive kart racing career when he was nine. He quickly showed his talent.
Karting Success
In 2008, Nyck won the WSK World Series in the KF3 category. He also became the champion of the German Junior Championship. He repeated these wins in 2009 and added the European KF3 Championship title. In 2010 and 2011, he won the Karting World Championship two times in a row!
Moving to Single-Seater Cars
After his karting success, Nyck moved to racing in single-seater cars. These are open-wheel cars, like mini Formula One cars.
Formula Renault Eurocup Wins
In 2012, Nyck started racing in the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0. He got his first podium finish in his very first race. He ended the season in fifth place. He also won a race in the Formula Renault 2.0 NEC series at his home track in Assen.
In 2013, he won two races in the Eurocup series. He finished fifth in the championship again.
The year 2014 was amazing for Nyck. He won six races and stood on the podium in eleven out of fourteen races. He became the champion of the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 with a big lead. He also won ten out of fourteen races in the Alpine Formula Renault season, becoming champion there too!
Formula Renault 3.5 Series
In 2015, Nyck moved up to the Formula Renault 3.5 Series. He finished on the podium five times. He won the final race of the season and ended up third in the overall standings.
GP3 Series Races
Nyck competed in the GP3 Series in 2016. He earned his first podium at the Red Bull Ring. He also got his first pole position in Budapest. He won two races that season, finishing sixth in the championship.
FIA Formula 2 Championship
Formula 2 is a very important step for drivers hoping to reach Formula One.
2017 Season
In 2017, Nyck joined the FIA Formula 2 Championship. He won his first race in Monte Carlo. He also achieved three more podium finishes. He ended his first Formula 2 season in seventh place.
2018 Season
For the 2018 season, Nyck continued in Formula 2. He won his first race of the year in Le Castellet. He then won two more feature races in Hungary and Belgium. He finished the season in fourth place.
2019 Championship Year
In 2019, Nyck stayed in Formula 2 and had a fantastic season. He won a sprint race in Barcelona. He also won from pole position in Monaco. He took the championship lead by winning the main race at Le Castellet. After several more podiums and a final victory in Sochi, Nyck was crowned the Formula 2 champion!
Sportscar Racing Adventures
After his success in junior categories, Nyck also started racing in sportscars. These are different from single-seater cars and are often used in endurance races.
In 2018, Nyck joined Racing Team Nederland to race in the LMP2 class of the FIA World Endurance Championship. He continued with the team in the 2019–20 season. Nyck and his teammates won the 6 Hours of Fuji, which was the team's first win in the series.
In 2020, Nyck became a test and reserve driver for Toyota Gazoo Racing Europe GmbH. He also competed in the European Le Mans Series, winning a race at the Algarve International Circuit.
Nyck drove in the 2022 24 Hours of Le Mans race, finishing fourth in his class.
In 2023, Nyck was announced as a main driver for the No. 7 Toyota Gazoo Racing Hypercar in the FIA World Endurance Championship. He achieved his first overall WEC victory at the 6 Hours of Imola in 2024. He also finished second overall at the Le Mans race in 2024, earning his first podium there. In 2026, Nyck achieved a dream by winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans with Toyota.

Mercedes-EQ Team (2019–2022)
2019–20 Season
In 2019, Nyck joined the new Mercedes-Benz EQ Formula E Team for the 2019–20 Formula E season. He earned one podium finish, coming in second place at the final Berlin ePrix race. He finished 11th overall that season.
2020–21 World Championship Season
For the 2020–21 season, Nyck continued with the Mercedes team. He started the first race from pole position and led every lap to win his first-ever Formula E race! He got his second victory of the season in Valencia.
Nyck fought for victory in both races of the London ePrix, finishing second in both. This put him in the lead for the championship. In the final race in Berlin, he finished eighth, which was enough to win his first World Championship in Formula E! He ended the season with two wins and four podiums.
2021–22 Season
Nyck continued with Mercedes for their final season in Formula E. He won the first race of the season in Diriyah. He finished the championship in ninth place with 106 points. Nyck left the team at the end of this season to pursue a career in Formula One.
Mahindra Team (2024–Present)
2023–24 Season
After his time in Formula One, Mahindra Racing announced that Nyck would join them for the 2023–24 season.
2024–25 Season
Nyck continued racing for Mahindra Racing in the 2024–25 season. He missed the Berlin ePrix because it conflicted with a FIA World Endurance Championship race. Felipe Drugovich replaced him for that event.
2025–26 Season
Nyck is currently competing in the 2025–26 Formula E season with Mahindra Racing. He achieved a fantastic win at the Monaco ePrix in 2026.
Formula One Career
Formula One is the highest level of single-seater racing.
Nyck was part of the McLaren Young Driver Programme from 2010 to 2019. He also joined the Audi Sport Racing Academy in 2016.
Test and Reserve Driver Roles (2020–2022)
In December 2020, Nyck took part in his first Formula One test for the Mercedes team. The next year, he became one of their reserve drivers.
Nyck made his Formula 1 practice debut at the 2022 Spanish Grand Prix with Williams. He also drove for Mercedes in practice sessions at the French and Mexico City Grands Prix.
2022 Italian Grand Prix Debut
At the Italian Grand Prix, Nyck first drove in practice for Aston Martin. Then, he got an unexpected chance to race for Williams when their driver, Alexander Albon, became unwell. Nyck qualified 13th and started the race in eighth place. He finished the race in ninth position, scoring points in his very first Formula One race! Fans even voted him "Driver of the Day."
AlphaTauri Team (2023)
Nyck was signed by Scuderia AlphaTauri for the 2023 season. He competed in ten races for the team.
He finished 14th in both the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix. At the Australian Grand Prix, he retired from a chaotic race. He also had to retire from the Azerbaijan Grand Prix after hitting a wall.
Nyck finished 12th in the Monaco Grand Prix, beating his teammate for the first time that year. He continued to race for AlphaTauri until the British Grand Prix. After ten races, Nyck was replaced by Daniel Ricciardo.
McLaren Test and Simulator (2025–)
Nyck joined the McLaren F1 Team as a test and simulator driver in 2025. He continues in this role in 2026, helping the team develop their cars.

Nyck has also explored other types of racing.
IndyCar Series
In December 2021, Nyck took part in an IndyCar test with Meyer Shank Racing. He set the fastest times among the drivers testing that day.
Super Formula
In 2024, Nyck made his Super Formula debut in Japan with Team Impul. He competed in three races in the series.
