Discovering Ohio City's Past
Ohio City has an interesting history with a few name changes!
How Ohio City Got Its Name
The village was first planned between March 4 and 8, 1876. It was called "Van Wert Junction" back then. Later, on June 1, 1882, people voted to change the name to "Enterprise."
However, this caused problems for the post office because there was already another place called Enterprise in Preble County. So, the name needed to change again!
On June 1, 1890, the town council met. A man named Lewis J. Kiggins suggested the name "Ohio City." Everyone liked it, and that's how the village got its current name.
Ohio City in 1910
In 1910, Ohio City was a very busy and successful town. It was an important spot because several major railroads met there.
