Oliver Tree Nickell (born June 29, 1993) is an American singer, songwriter, and filmmaker. He was born in Santa Cruz, California. Oliver Tree signed with Atlantic Records in 2017. His first album, Ugly Is Beautiful, came out in 2020.
He became very famous with his songs "Life Goes On" in 2021 and "Miss You" in 2022. His second album, Cowboy Tears, was released in 2022. His third album, Alone in a Crowd, came out in 2023.

Early Life and Education
Oliver Tree Nickell was born on June 29, 1993. He grew up in Santa Cruz, California. He started playing piano at age three. He began writing songs a year later. By age six, he had already written a whole album.
Oliver studied business at San Francisco State University. He also studied Music Technology at the California Institute of the Arts.
Music Career
Starting Out (2010–2016)
Oliver began his music career as "Tree" in 2010. He performed at shows with famous artists like Skrillex and Zeds Dead. At first, he released his music by himself. Later, he signed with R&S Records in 2011.
He also sang and played guitar in a ska band called Irony. This was his first time performing with a band. For a short time, he made electronic music called dubstep under the name Kryph. He even played at big festivals like Wobbleland 2011. He opened shows for artists such as Tyler, the Creator and Frank Ocean.
When he was 18, Oliver signed with R&S Records. He released his first EP (a short album) called Demons. The lead singer of Radiohead, Thom Yorke, liked his cover of their song "Karma Police". After this, Oliver took a break from music. He went back to school to study music technology.
Returning to Music (2016–2018)
In November 2016, Oliver Tree came back to music. He performed on TV with Getter. This was on Last Call with Carson Daly.
After his song "When I'm Down" became popular, he signed with Atlantic Records. This happened in 2017. A month later, he finished his studies at the California Institute of the Arts.
Oliver Tree also enjoys making funny videos. He often writes, acts in, and directs these comedy sketches.
In February 2018, he released his first major EP, Alien Boy. He also released a music video for "All That x Alien Boy". Oliver wrote and directed this video himself. It took him over nine months to make. He even spent five months learning to jump monster trucks. He did all his own stunts in the video.
Oliver Tree has played at big music festivals. These include Lollapalooza and Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival. He was also a special guest at Coachella.
Ugly Is Beautiful and More Hits (2018–2020)
From 2018 to 2019, Oliver released several songs. These songs would later be on his first album, Ugly Is Beautiful. On December 7, 2018, he released the music video for "Hurt". He wrote and helped direct this video. He even traveled to Ukraine to film it. In its first week, the "Hurt" music video got one million views. The song also played a lot on the radio.
On June 7, 2019, he released "Miracle Man". The video for this song got 1.3 million views on its first day. His second EP, Do You Feel Me?, came out on August 2, 2019. It received good reviews.
On December 6, 2019, Oliver released "Cash Machine". With this song, he announced his first album, Ugly Is Beautiful. It was set to be released on March 27, 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the album's release was delayed. It finally came out on July 17, 2020.
On May 16, 2020, Oliver Tree set a Guinness World Record. He made the world's largest kick scooter. He later shared a video of himself riding it.
New Albums and Popular Songs (2021–Present)
Even though he said he was retiring, Oliver released "Out of Ordinary" in February 2021. This song was part of a deluxe version of Ugly Is Beautiful.
On May 28, 2021, he released Ugly Is Beautiful: Shorter, Thicker & Uglier. From this album, the song "Life Goes On" became very popular worldwide.
He also worked with the Russian band Little Big. They released the song "Turn It Up" with Estonian rapper Tommy Cash. This song was on their shared EP, Welcome to the Internet, released in September 2021.
In 2022, Oliver released songs like "Cowboys Don't Cry" and "Freaks & Geeks". These were from his second album, Cowboy Tears, which came out on February 18, 2022. He also released "I Hate You" and "Placeholder". In August 2022, he released "Miss You" with German music producer Robin Schulz. The music video for "Miss You" came out in October 2022. The song became as popular as "Life Goes On".
In 2023, Oliver Tree released "Here We Go Again" with DJ David Guetta. He then released "Bounce" in June. This song was the first single from his third album, Alone in a Crowd. The album was released on September 29, 2023. He also announced his "Alone in a Crowd World Tour". He was scheduled to perform in Australia, Europe, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
