Omar Shariff Sneed (born October 9, 1976) is an American basketball coach and former player. He is currently the head coach for the Beaumont Panthers in The Basketball League (TBL).
Omar grew up in Texas and played high school basketball at West Brook High School in Beaumont. After high school, he played two years at San Jacinto College, a junior college, where he was named an NJCAA All-American. He then played his junior and senior years at Memphis in NCAA Division I, earning all-conference honors twice.
Even though he wasn't picked in the 1999 NBA draft, Omar started his professional career in Colombia. He played in many countries across Asia, Europe, and South America. He was the top scorer in the Dutch league in 2001 and was named one of the top five players in the Israeli Basketball Premier League. Omar stopped playing professional basketball in 2015.

High School Basketball
Omar Sneed was born in Texas. He played basketball at West Brook High School in Beaumont. In his second year (sophomore season) in 1992–93, he scored an average of 32 points per game.
As a senior, Omar averaged 21 points and 13 rebounds per game. He was chosen for the All-State First Team by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC).
College Basketball Journey
Playing at San Jacinto
After high school, Omar Sneed was wanted by big NCAA Division I college teams like Houston and Texas. He signed with Houston in April 1995. However, Omar did not meet the academic rules to play in the NCAA.
So, he decided to play for San Jacinto College. This is a community college in the Houston area that plays in the NJCAA Division I.
In his first year at San Jacinto, Omar averaged 21 points and 10.9 rebounds per game. He shot very well, making 60.3% of his shots. He was named to the All-TEC first team as one of the best players in his conference.
In his second year, Omar played with future NBA player Steve Francis. In one game against Blinn College, Omar scored a career-high 43 points. He averaged 24.2 points and 11.3 rebounds per game that season. San Jacinto reached the championship game of the 1997 NJCAA Division I tournament. They lost to Indian Hills Community College. Omar was the top scorer in that game with 26 points.
At the end of his second year, Omar was named the 1997 TEAC MVP. He was also a first-team All-American. Basketball Times magazine even named him the JUCO National Player of the Year.
Playing at Memphis
In May 1997, Omar Sneed decided to play for Memphis in NCAA Division I. He chose to wear jersey number 31. He played his first game for Memphis on November 15, 1997. In his next game, he had a "double-double" (scoring at least 10 in two different stats) with 23 points and 10 rebounds.
On December 20, he scored a new career-high of 30 points against Tennessee. On February 11, 1998, he had 37 points and 20 rebounds. These were his highest numbers at Memphis. He had 12 double-doubles during the season. He led his team in scoring in 18 games and in rebounding in 16 games.
Omar led the Conference USA in scoring (22.7 points per game) and rebounding (9.7) in conference games. He started all 29 games and averaged 20.9 points and 9.2 rebounds for the season. He shot 58.5% from the field. He was named the team MVP and a first-team All-Conference USA player.
Before his senior year, coaches named Omar to the preseason first-team All-Conference USA. They also thought he might be the Conference USA Player of the Year. Omar averaged 16.7 points and 7.5 rebounds per game in his senior year. He led the team in both scoring and rebounding again. He had 6 double-doubles that year, bringing his total to 18.
He played his last game for Memphis on March 3, 1999. He scored 16 points and had 10 rebounds in that game. Omar scored a total of 1,072 points in his two seasons at Memphis. This made him the fourth player in Memphis history to score over 1,000 points in two years.

Professional Basketball Career
After college, Omar Sneed was able to join the 1999 NBA draft, but he was not chosen by any team. He decided to play basketball overseas.
He first signed with Sabios de Manizales in Colombia in late 1999. He then played for teams in Belgium and the Dominican Republic. In 2000, he joined BSW Weert in the Dutch Basketball League. In the 2000–01 season, he was the league's top scorer, averaging 27.1 points per game. He was also named the All-Star Game MVP after scoring 30 points and grabbing 14 rebounds.
In 2001, Omar played for the Houston Rockets in an NBA Summer League tournament. After that, he played for Power Wevelgem in Belgium. There, he was the second-highest scorer in the league, averaging 20.9 points per game.
Omar then played for Znicz Pruszków in the Polish Basketball League during the 2002–03 season. He averaged 17.5 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. In October 2003, he signed with the London Towers in the British Basketball League. In the 2003–04 season, he averaged 22.3 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 4 assists per game. He was fifth in the league for rebounds.
Omar first played in Israel in the 2004–05 season for Elitzur Ashkelon. He averaged 19.1 points and 7.3 rebounds. The next season, he played for Maccabi Rishon LeZion. He averaged 18.4 points and 7.4 rebounds. He was chosen for the Israeli Basketball Premier League Quintet, which is like the all-league first team.
In 2006, Omar signed with Lokomotiv Rostov in the Russian Super League. He averaged 11.5 points and 7 rebounds per game. He also played in the 2006–07 FIBA EuroCup. He stayed with the team for another season before moving to Iran. In Iran, he played for Kaveh BC and Saba Battery.
In July 2008, he returned to Israel to play for Hapoel Jerusalem. He averaged 14.7 points, 7.2 rebounds, and a career-high 5 assists per game in the 2008–09 season. He earned his second spot on the Premier League Quintet. He also played in the 2008–09 FIBA EuroChallenge.
In 2009, he went back to Elitzur Ashkelon for a second time. He averaged 16 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists in the 2009–10 season. He then signed with Pinar Karşıyaka in the Turkish Basketball Super League. He played 7 league games and 4 EuroChallenge games before leaving in December 2010.
In late 2011, he played for Defensor Sporting in Liga Uruguaya de Básquetbol (Uruguay). In January 2012, he signed with Mersin BB in Turkey. He played 15 games, averaging 16.9 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 3.2 assists. In 2012, he also played 9 games for the Powerade Tigers in the 2012 PBA Governors' Cup in the Philippines. He returned to Mersin for another season.
After not playing in the 2013–14 season, he briefly played for Ankara DSİ in the Turkish second basketball league in 2014. He played 2 games before ending his professional playing career.
