Ondrej Duda (born on December 5, 1994) is a football player from Slovakia. He plays in the middle of the field (as a midfielder) for the Saudi club Al-Ettifaq. He also plays for the Slovakia national team.

Ondrej Duda's Football Journey

Ondrej Duda started his football journey in his hometown with the club MFK Snina. Later, he moved to Košice. There, he played for the youth teams and then joined the main team. He played his first game for the main team at age 17. This was during a 1–0 home win against Slovan Bratislava.

In early 2014, Duda decided not to continue his contract with Košice. In February 2014, he joined Legia Warsaw in Poland. He signed a contract for four and a half years.

On July 30, 2015, something unusual happened during a UEFA Europa League game. Duda was playing for Legia against Kukesi in Albania. He was hit by a stone and had to leave the game. The match was stopped. Legia was given a 3–0 win. Kukesi was fined and had to play their next European home game without fans.

Playing for Hertha BSC

On July 20, 2016, Duda signed a five-year contract with Bundesliga team Hertha Berlin in Germany. Soon after joining, he had a knee injury and needed surgery in November 2016.

Duda finally played his first game for Hertha on February 25, 2017. This was seven months after he signed. He came into the game as a substitute in a 2–0 win against Eintracht Frankfurt. Duda scored a famous goal against Bayern Munich. He kicked the ball into the net, past the goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. This goal helped Hertha Berlin win 2–0 against the German champions.

Duda had a great year with Hertha during the 2018–2019 season. He played in 32 out of 34 Bundesliga games. He scored 11 goals and helped set up 6 others. Even though Hertha finished 11th and did not qualify for European competitions, other clubs noticed Duda. Sevilla from Spain showed interest in him in May 2019. Hertha manager Pal Dardai praised Duda, saying he could do things with the ball that very few others could.

The 2019–2020 season was not as good for Duda at Hertha. The team got a new manager, Ante Čović. Duda started in the first five Bundesliga games. But in the next twelve games, he only played in two. Later, Jürgen Klinsmann became the new manager. It became clear that Klinsmann did not plan to use Duda much. Duda then looked for a new club. Before he left, Duda played in seven Bundesliga games and two cup games. He scored one goal in a cup game against Dynamo Dresden.

Loan to Norwich City

On January 12, 2020, Duda was loaned to Norwich City in England for the rest of the 2019–20 season. He said he wanted to enjoy playing football again. He was happy to move to a new league and hoped to play a lot.

He played his first game for Norwich on January 18, 2020, against Bournemouth. About 30 minutes into the game, Duda took a shot that went towards the goal. A Bournemouth player, Steve Cook, stopped the ball with his hand. He was sent off, and Norwich got a penalty. Teemu Pukki scored the penalty, and Norwich won 1–0. Duda was happy about the win and was praised for his good play.

Even though Duda did not score any goals for Norwich, his manager, Daniel Farke, praised his hard work. Norwich was relegated from the league, and Duda returned to Hertha early.

Moving to 1. FC Köln

In September 2020, Duda signed a four-year contract with another Bundesliga team, 1. FC Köln. This move happened a few days after Hertha bought a player from Köln.

Time at Hellas Verona

On January 29, 2023, Köln announced that Duda would join Serie A team Hellas Verona in Italy. He joined them on loan until the end of the season. Hellas Verona avoided being relegated from the league. After that, Duda joined the club permanently for about €2 million.

Joining Al-Ettifaq

On July 17, 2025, it was announced that Duda would be joining the Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq.

Playing for Slovakia

Duda played his first game for the Slovakia national team on November 18, 2014. He came on as a substitute in a 2–1 friendly win against Finland.

Duda scored Slovakia's first goal in their UEFA Euro 2016 tournament. He scored to make the game 1–1 against Wales. Slovakia eventually lost that game 2–1. His first goal in a qualifying competition was in a 3–0 win against Malta. This goal helped Slovakia finish second in their group for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification.

Duda was a regular player for the national team under different coaches. He often played even when he had injuries. In March 2023, after a game against Luxembourg, some people wondered if Duda could replace Marek Hamšík, a famous Slovak player who had retired.
