History of Oriska

Oriska was first started in 1872. Back then, it was known as Fourth Siding. This name was given when the railroad tracks were built to reach this spot.

The name Oriska was chosen in 1881. It comes from a Native American character in a poem written by Lydia Sigourney. A post office has been open in Oriska since 1881, helping people send and receive mail.
