Orlando D. Franklin (born December 16, 1987) is a former professional American football player from Jamaica. He played as an offensive tackle, which is a position on the offensive line that helps protect the quarterback. Orlando played in the National Football League (NFL) for several teams. He played college football at the University of Miami before being chosen by the Denver Broncos in the 2011 NFL draft. He also played for the San Diego Chargers, New Orleans Saints, and Washington Redskins.

Early Life and High School
Orlando Franklin was born in Kingston, Jamaica. When he was three years old, he moved to Toronto, Canada, where he grew up. Later, Orlando and his mother moved to Florida in the United States. There, he played football at Atlantic Community High School in Delray Beach, Florida. He was a teammate with other future football players like Courtney Robinson and Jayron Hosley.
College Football Career
After high school, Orlando Franklin went to the University of Miami. He played college football there from 2007 to 2010. During his time at Miami, he started 39 out of 51 games. He played both as an offensive tackle and an offensive guard. These positions are important for blocking opponents and protecting the quarterback.
Professional Football Career
Playing for the Denver Broncos
In 2011, Orlando Franklin was picked by the Denver Broncos in the NFL draft. He was the 46th player chosen overall, in the second round. As a new player, called a rookie, Franklin started every single game for the Broncos in 2011.
He continued to be a key player for the Broncos. In 2012, he started all 16 regular season games as a right tackle. In 2013, he started 15 games and helped the Broncos reach Super Bowl XLVIII. They played against the Seattle Seahawks but lost the game. Franklin started all 16 games again in 2014.
Time with the San Diego Chargers
On March 10, 2015, Orlando Franklin signed a five-year contract with the San Diego Chargers. He played for the Chargers for two years. On May 15, 2017, the Chargers decided to release him from his contract.
Short Stays with Other Teams
After leaving the Chargers, Franklin signed with the New Orleans Saints on July 27, 2017. However, he was released by the Saints just five days later.
Later that year, on October 28, 2017, he signed with the Washington Redskins. He was released by the Redskins on November 4, 2017. He signed a new contract with the Redskins on January 19, 2018, but was released again on May 3, 2018.
Retirement from Football
Two days after being released by the Redskins in May 2018, Orlando Franklin announced his retirement from professional football. He explained that his health was a main reason for his decision. He also wanted to spend more time with his family, who lived in Denver.
Life After Football
After retiring from playing, Orlando Franklin started working in sports media. He worked on sports radio shows for 104.3 The Fan in Denver.
In the summer of 2021, he had a coaching internship with the San Francisco 49ers. He then joined the 49ers coaching staff for the 2021 NFL season, working closely with his father-in-law, Bobby Turner. After that season, Franklin returned to his radio job at KKFN in June 2022. He left KKFN-FM in September 2023.
