Orocrambus is a group, or genus, of small flying insects called moths. They belong to a larger family of moths known as Crambidae. What makes Orocrambus moths special is that you can only find them in New Zealand. This means they are endemic to New Zealand, living nowhere else in the world!
What are Orocrambus Moths?
Moths are insects that are closely related to butterflies. They usually fly at night and are known for their fuzzy bodies and wings often covered in tiny scales. The Orocrambus genus includes many different types of moths. Scientists study these moths to learn more about insect life and the natural world.
Where Do They Live?
All the moths in the Orocrambus group are found only in New Zealand. This makes them a unique part of New Zealand's wildlife. When an animal or plant is found only in one specific place, it is called endemic. This means Orocrambus moths are a special treasure of New Zealand's natural environment.
