Ortonville is a small city in Minnesota, a state in the United States. It's the main town, also called the county seat, of Big Stone County. Ortonville is located right at the southern end of Big Stone Lake, which is a large lake that sits on the border with South Dakota. In 2020, about 2,021 people lived here. You can also find Big Stone Lake State Park very close to the city.

History of Ortonville
Ortonville was first planned out in 1872. It was named after Cornelius Knute Orton, who helped create the town. Ortonville officially became a city in 1881. The important Big Stone County Courthouse building was finished in 1902.
Geography and Location
Ortonville covers an area of about 3.56 square miles (9.22 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with a small part being water.
Major roads like U.S. Highway 12 and U.S. Highway 75 go around the city. Minnesota State Highway 7 is one of the main roads that runs through Ortonville itself.
