Osmel Ricardo Sousa Mansilla, born on September 26, 1946, is a famous Cuban-Venezuelan expert in beauty pageants. He used to be the president of the Miss Venezuela Organization.

People know him for being excellent at organizing beauty pageants and in advertising. He is often called "The Tsar of Beauty." This nickname comes from his big role in helping Venezuela win many international beauty titles. Many consider him the best coach for beauty queens around the world.

On February 8, 2018, Osmel Sousa announced he would retire from his role. Gabriela Isler then took over as the national director for the Miss Venezuela pageant.

Early Life and Career Beginnings

Osmel Sousa was born in Rodas, a town in Cienfuegos, Cuba. When he was thirteen, he moved to Maracaibo, Venezuela, to live with his grandmother.

After finishing high school, he studied acting for a short time. He quickly realized that acting was not for him. Later, he worked as an advertising artist and art designer. He worked for two big TV networks in Venezuela: VTV and RCTV.

In 1969, Osmel Sousa started working for a company that organized the yearly Miss Venezuela contest. He joined the Venezuelan Committee of Beauty. He continued with this committee when it became the OPPA Advertising Agency in 1970. This agency later became the Miss Venezuela Organization we know today.

In the 1970s, Osmel Sousa began advising some of the contestants. Many of these contestants went on to win the Miss Venezuela crown. At the same time, he also started designing beautiful evening gowns for most of them. His first big success was María Antonieta Cámpoli, who became Miss Venezuela in 1972. She then placed third in the Miss Universe contest.

In October 1981, Osmel Sousa became the president of the Miss Venezuela Organization. During his thirty years in this role, he was a key reason why so many Miss Venezuelas won major international titles. These titles include Miss World, Miss Universe, Miss International, and Miss Earth.

Sousa has been described as a "Pygmalion." This means he is like an artist who helps talented young women become even more beautiful and successful. Thanks to his work, Venezuela has won seven Miss Universe titles, six Miss World titles, nine Miss International crowns, and two Miss Earth titles. This makes Venezuela the most successful country in beauty pageant history.

In 2007, Sousa was a judge for Nuestra Belleza Latina. This was a Hispanic beauty contest on Univision. He judged alongside Lupita Jones, a former Miss Universe, and Carlos Calderón.

On February 6, 2018, Osmel Sousa officially announced his retirement from the Miss Venezuela organization. He had worked there for forty years.

Expanding His Influence: Mister World and Miss Argentina

In 1996, Osmel Sousa also became the manager for the Mister World contest in Venezuela. This is a beauty contest for men. In 1998, he achieved his first success in this contest. Sandro Finoglio won the first Mister World title for Venezuela.

In July 2019, Sousa announced on social media that he would also lead the Miss Argentina beauty pageant. He also directed the Miss Universe Argentina pageant from 2019 to 2021 and the Miss Universe Uruguay pageant in 2019.
