Oswald Dome, also known as Bean Mountain, is a mountain located in Polk County, Tennessee. It is part of the Cherokee National Forest. This mountain is the highest point on a larger ridge called Chilhowee Mountain. It stands tall at 3,022 feet (921 meters) above sea level.
Exploring Oswald Dome
Oswald Dome is found about 3.2 miles west of Reliance. It is also 5.5 miles northeast of Benton. The mountain is 2.9 miles south-southeast of Delano. The Hiwassee River flows along the northern side of the mountain.
You can reach Oswald Dome by using Oswald Dome Road. This is a forest service road that connects to U.S. 64. There are also two trails for hikers. The Lowry Cove Trail starts at the top of the mountain and goes north.
Towers on the Mountain
Several radio and television transmitters are located on top of Oswald Dome. These towers help send out radio and TV signals to nearby areas. A fire tower used to be on the mountain. This tower helped spot forest fires. In 2004, it was moved to the Ocoee Whitewater Center.
