Fred Otis Holmes Amey (born December 4, 1981) is an American former football player. He was a wide receiver, which means he caught passes. He played for the San Francisco 49ers in the National Football League (NFL).
Before joining the NFL, Amey played college football at Sacramento State. After his time with the 49ers, he also played for several other teams. These included the Austin Wranglers, Atlanta Falcons, Cleveland Gladiators, BC Lions, Winnipeg Blue Bombers, San Jose SaberCats, and Sacramento Mountain Lions.

Early Life and High School Football
Otis Amey grew up in Union City, California. He went to James Logan High School. There, he was a star in both football and track.
In his final year of high school football, he was chosen for the All-Mission Valley Athletic League team. He also helped his team win the League championship.
College Football Career
Amey then went to Sacramento State University. He was a very important player for their football team. He was named an All-American twice, which is a big honor.
For all four years he played, Amey was the team's best receiver. He led the team in many areas. These included total yards gained, kick returns, and receiving yards. By the end of his college career, he had caught 248 passes. He gained over 4,000 receiving yards and scored 27 touchdowns.
Amey set many records at Sacramento State. He holds records for career catches and career receiving touchdowns. He also holds records for kickoff return yards and punt returns.
Professional Football Journey
Playing for the San Francisco 49ers
After college, Otis Amey was not chosen in the 2005 NFL draft. However, the San Francisco 49ers signed him in April 2005. Before the season started, he changed his first name from Fred to Otis.
He made the team and played in his first NFL game on September 11. In that game, he returned a punt 75 yards for a touchdown! He played in 11 games that season. He was good at returning kicks and punts. The 49ers released him in September 2006.
Time with the Austin Wranglers
In early 2007, Amey joined the Austin Wranglers. This team played in the Arena Football League. He played in all 16 games that season. He gained a total of 1,738 yards.
He caught 88 passes for 1,036 yards and scored 18 touchdowns. He also ran the ball and returned kicks for the team.
Brief Stint with the Atlanta Falcons
On August 12, 2007, Amey signed with the Atlanta Falcons. He played in two preseason games. He caught two passes for 23 yards. However, he did not make the final team and was released on September 1. He did not play football for the rest of that year.
Success with the Cleveland Gladiators
After not playing in the NFL in 2007, Amey returned to the Arena Football League. He joined the Cleveland Gladiators. On April 19, 2008, he had an amazing game. He caught 15 passes for 208 yards and scored six touchdowns!
He helped the Gladiators have a great season. They made it to the AFL National Conference Championship Game in 2008. Amey led the entire Arena Football League with 50 touchdowns that season.
Playing in Canada
Amey also played in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He signed with the BC Lions on May 13, 2009. However, he was released before the season started.
Later that year, on August 17, 2009, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers signed him. He played his first CFL game on September 26, 2009. In that game, he caught 6 passes for 118 yards. He played in five games for the Blue Bombers that season. He gained 188 yards on 13 catches. The Blue Bombers released him in June 2010.
Personal Life
Otis Amey has a brother named Vince Amey. Vince was also a football player. He played as a defensive tackle for Arizona State. He also played for the Oakland Raiders in 1998. Vince also played in the Arena Football League for teams like the Los Angeles Avengers and Arizona Rattlers.
