Otto Ramón Sonnenholzner Sper was born on March 19, 1983. He is an Ecuadorian politician, economist, and radio broadcaster. He served as the 50th Vice President of Ecuador from December 2018 to July 2020. Later, he ran for President of Ecuador in the 2023 election.

Early Life and Education
Otto Sonnenholzner was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador. His father was Ramón Sonnenholzner and his mother was Rosa Elena Sper. He has both German and Lebanese family roots.
He studied social sciences, communication, and international economics. He attended universities in Ecuador, Germany, and Spain. After his studies, he became the general manager of Tropicana radio. He also led the Ecuadorian Association of Broadcasting (AER). Today, he teaches at the University of Guayaquil.
Serving as Vice President
In December 2018, the previous Vice President, María Alejandra Vicuña, resigned. President Lenín Moreno then suggested Otto Sonnenholzner for the role. The National Assembly of Ecuador chose him to be the new Vice President.
He worked as Vice President until July 7, 2020. He resigned from his position during the 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic. The pandemic caused many challenges, especially in Guayaquil.
After His Time in Office
After leaving the vice presidency, Otto Sonnenholzner continued to be involved in public life. He decided to run for president in 2023.
Running for President in 2023
In 2023, Ecuador faced a political crisis. Because of this, a new election was called. Otto Sonnenholzner announced that he would be a candidate for President of Ecuador. The election took place in August 2023. He received 7.09% of the votes in the first round.

Otto Sonnenholzner is married to Claudia Salem Barakat. They have three children together.
