Overbrook is a small city located in Osage County, Kansas, in the United States. In 2020, about 1,005 people lived there.

History of Overbrook

The famous Santa Fe Trail used to pass right through the area where Overbrook is today. You can still see marks on the ground from the old trail in some spots.

Overbrook was started in 1886. Two people, William T. Coffman and Jasper B. Fairchild, each gave 30 acres of land to help build the city. The city got its name from Overbrook, Pennsylvania. That was the hometown of an engineer who helped build the railroad.

Overbrook is located in eastern Kansas. It covers a total area of about 0.55 square miles (1.41 square kilometers). All of this area is land.

Education in Overbrook

Students in Overbrook go to schools in the Santa Fe Trail USD 434 public school district. This district also includes the nearby towns of Carbondale and Scranton.

The high school for the district is Santa Fe Trail High School. It opened in 1970. Before that, Overbrook had its own schools: Overbrook Elementary School and Overbrook Rural High School.

Sports Achievements

The Santa Fe Trail Chargers are the high school sports teams. They have won state championships in basketball. The boys' team won the Kansas State High School class 4A basketball championship in 1997. The girls' team won the same championship in 1998. The golf team also won the 3A championship in 2021.

Even though Overbrook Rural High School closed, its former students still have a reunion every year. The mascot for Overbrook High School used to be the Overbrook Gophers.
