Pablo Fernando Puente Aparicio (born in Valladolid, Spain, on July 24, 1945 – died in Valladolid, Spain, on April 11, 2020) was a Spanish architect and university professor. He was famous for designing the first nine "Las Edades del Hombre" exhibitions. He also taught at the Higher Technical School of Architecture of Valladolid (ETSAV).

About His Life

Pablo Puente was born in 1946 in Valladolid, Spain. He had three sisters and one brother.

He met María del Castañar Domínguez in Candelario (Salamanca, Spain). They later got married. Because of this, he always felt a strong connection to Béjar.

Pablo and María del Castañar had four children. They had one daughter, also named María del Castañar, who became an architect too. They also had three sons: Pablo, Fernando, and José Enrique.

He studied Architecture at the Higher Technical School of Architecture of Madrid. He was very interested in learning, so he also studied Geography and History in Valladolid. He earned that degree in 1987.

Sadly, Pablo Puente got sick during the COVID-19 pandemic in Spain. He passed away on April 11, 2020, at 74 years old.

His Work as an Architect

Pablo Puente became a professional architect in 1972. He mainly worked on restoring old buildings and designing exhibitions.

Teaching at University

From 1973 to 1975, he taught about architectural forms at ETSAV.

Later, from 1989 to 1999, he was an associate professor. He taught History of Art and Architecture at the same university.

Restoring Old Buildings

Pablo Puente worked on many important restoration projects. He helped fix up the Saldañuela palace in Sarracín and the Santa María de Valbuena monastery.

He also worked on the Monastery of Santa Clara la Real in Murcia. He helped expand the College of Agustinas in Valladolid.

Other projects included restoring the basement of the Episcopal Palace of Astorga. He also created a temporary exhibition hall for the Salzillo Museum.

Designing Exhibitions

Pablo Puente was well-known for organizing exhibitions. He didn't just design them; he also wrote many articles and books about how to set up exhibitions. He even created a "school" for exhibition design.

His most famous work was the "Las Edades del Hombre" series. He was the main architect and director for the first nine (or ten) of these shows. The first one was held in the Valladolid Cathedral in 1988.

He also organized an exhibition in Antwerp (Belgium) in 1995. Through his work on "Las Edades del Hombre," he became good friends with priest José Velicia and writer José Jiménez Lozano.

Besides this famous series, Pablo Puente also worked on other exhibitions. These included "Las mujeres en la Guerra Civil" in Salamanca (1989) and "Una hora de España" in Madrid (1994).

He also designed "Sacras moles" in Barcelona (1996), which was about cathedrals. Another project was "La Navidad en palacio" (1998) at the Royal Palace of Madrid.

He was a member of the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando. He was a corresponding academic for Castilla and León.

He also served as president of the Valladolid branch of the Official College of Architects of Madrid from 1986 to 1988.

Pablo Puente created many audiovisual projects. These included "El metarrealismo de Adolfo Sarabia" (1985) and "Instrumentos musicales en las portadas de las iglesias" (1991). He also wrote and coordinated videos for exhibitions like "La ciudad de seis pisos" and "Huellas."
