The Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge is a special place that protects wildlife. It is located in the southern part of the Pahranagat Valley. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service manages this refuge.

This refuge is about 90 miles (140 km) north of Las Vegas, Nevada. It is found in Lincoln County, Nevada. The refuge covers 5,380-acre (21.8 km2) of land. It was created on August 16, 1963.

Pahranagat is part of a bigger group of refuges. This group is called the Desert National Wildlife Refuge Complex. Other refuges in this group include Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge, Desert National Wildlife Refuge, and Moapa Valley National Wildlife Refuge.

The refuge is a very important home for migrating birds. These birds travel long distances each year. Many waterfowl, like ducks and geese, stop here. They use the refuge for resting and feeding during their journey. This area is part of a major bird highway called the Pacific Flyway.

What is Being Done at the Refuge?

Work is happening to make the refuge even better for wildlife. People are working to restore the wetland areas. They are also improving the desert land. The goal is to bring these habitats back to how they were over 100 years ago. This helps all the animals and plants that live there.
