History of Palo Seco
Puerto Rico became a part of the United States after the Spanish–American War. This happened when Spain gave up the island in 1898, as agreed in the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Puerto Rico then became an unincorporated territory of the United States. This means it is part of the U.S. but not a state.
In 1899, the United States government counted the people living in Puerto Rico. This count is called a census. The census found that 802 people lived in the Palo Seco barrio at that time.
Over the years, the population of Palo Seco changed. During the 2010 census, a part of the Palo Seco barrio was separated and became its own new barrio called Tumbao.
