The Palo Verde Mountains are a mountain range found in the northeastern part of Imperial County, California. These mountains are located right next to the Colorado River, in a region known as the Lower Colorado River Valley and the Colorado Desert.
The highest point in this area is Palo Verde Peak, which reaches about 1,800 feet (549 meters) high. Another important peak, Thumb Peak, is located to the north.
One special spot in the Palo Verde Mountains is Clapp Spring. This spring is a palm oasis, which means it's a place with water and trees in the middle of a dry area. Clapp Spring is super important because it's the only place with a permanent water source for all the wild animals living in the mountains.
