Early Life and Family
Pan Hong was born in Shanghai, China. Her birth name was Liu Ronghua. She changed her last name to "Pan" from "Liu" to honor her mother. This happened during a difficult time in China called the Cultural Revolution.
When she was young, her father passed away. She bravely traveled alone to take his ashes back to his hometown. This shows how strong she was even as a child.
Her Acting Career
After finishing her studies at the Shanghai Theatre Academy, Pan Hong started her acting journey. At first, she played smaller parts in movies.
Becoming a Star
In 1982, she became very well-known. This was after she played the main character in a movie called At the Middle Age. This film helped her become a leading actress.
Many people in China's film industry think of her as a very special and respected actress. She is also a leader in the film world. She helps guide the China Film Association.
In 2021, her singing of "Once Upon a Time" was even used at Shanghai Disney Resort!

Personal Life
In 1978, when Pan Hong was 24, she married Mi Jiashan. He worked in filmmaking. After they got married, she lived in Chengdu. They later divorced in 1986.
After her divorce, Pan Hong moved back to Shanghai. She lived with her mother for a while. She has not remarried and does not have children.
In 1995, Pan Hong shared her personal thoughts by publishing her diaries from the previous year. Around 2003, she became a follower of Buddhism. She also became a vegetarian.
