Exploring the Pap of Glencoe
The Pap of Glencoe is a popular spot for hikers. It offers amazing views of the surrounding area. Many people enjoy climbing to its top.
Climbing Routes
There are a few ways to climb the Pap of Glencoe. The most common path starts from a small road. This road is found between Glencoe village and the Clachaig Inn.
The Main Path
About 1 kilometer (0.6 miles) west of the youth hostel, you'll find a pebble path. This path leads away from the road. It goes past a white house on your left side.
The path then takes you up to a "bealach." A bealach is like a mountain pass or a low point between two peaks. This specific bealach is between the Pap and a peak called Sgor nam Fiannaidh.
The last part of the climb to the bealach can be quite muddy. After reaching the bealach, you can climb the rest of the way to the top of the Pap. The final 100 meters (330 feet) of climbing involves some easy scrambling. Scrambling means you might need to use your hands a bit to help you climb over rocks. It's important to be careful, especially if it's winter and there's snow or ice.
Other Ways to Climb
You can also climb the Pap from the Kinlochleven side. However, this route is not as common or as popular as the one from Glencoe village. Most people prefer the main path for their adventure.
