History of Partille
People have lived in the Partille area for over a thousand years. There are still fifteen ancient sites from that time.
Partille is in a valley surrounded by mountains. Its name might come from "Part haella," meaning "split rock." Another idea is "Port haella," which means "door in the mountain."
The small river Säveån flows through the valley. Its name means "slowly flowing stream." This river has been very important for Partille's history. The land around it was good for farming, and many farms were there in the Middle Ages.
The oldest building in Partille is Partille Kyrka (Partille Church). It was built in the 13th century. The church is in the center of Partille, showing that this area has always been the main meeting place. The church does not have a bell tower. A separate bell tower was built in 1652.
The river was also a great place for fishing. Records from the 16th century show that important people fished here. Even today, salmon and trout are popular fish to catch.
Besides farming and forestry, transportation was a big business. David af Sanderberg, who managed the East India Company, built Partille Herrgård (manor) between 1770 and 1780. This manor is now a famous landmark.
Later, in the 1800s, Sweden's first industrial area grew in Jonsered. Two Scottish men, William Gibson and Alexander Keiller, opened a factory there. They made cloth for sails and tents. Sweden's first terrace-houses, built in an English style, were also in Jonsered. Today, Jonsered is still important for its well-preserved historical buildings.
Economy and Business
Many different businesses are based in Partille. These include Soft Touch AB, which makes safety equipment. Triumfglass makes ice cream, and Swisslog works with logistics. Ragn Sells is a company that handles waste and recycling.
A major feature of Partille is the Allum shopping mall. The municipality worked with a construction company to build it. The goal was to connect the two parts of the municipality, which were separated by the E20 highway.
Construction of Allum started in 2004 and finished in 2006. The name "Allum" comes from an old Swedish word meaning "everyone." So, the name means "for everyone." The mall created about 650 new jobs and has around 100 stores.
