París is a small community, also known as a barrio, located in the town of Lajas, Puerto Rico. In 2010, about 968 people lived there.
History of París
Puerto Rico used to be a territory of Spain. After the Spanish–American War in 1898, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This happened because of an agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898.
After this, Puerto Rico became an unincorporated territory of the United States. This means it is part of the U.S. but does not have all the same rights as a state.
In 1899, the United States government counted everyone living in Puerto Rico. This count, called a census, found that 875 people lived in the París barrio at that time. The population has changed over the years, as shown in the table below.
