Paul Jewell (born 28 September 1964) is an English football manager and former player. He was most recently a director of football at Swindon Town.
Paul started his playing career at Liverpool. He then played for Wigan Athletic and spent ten years with Bradford City. He also had a short loan spell at Grimsby Town. After he stopped playing, he joined the coaching staff at Bradford City.
In 1998, Paul Jewell became the manager of Bradford City. He helped them get promoted to the Premier League. Later, he managed Sheffield Wednesday. He returned to Wigan Athletic and led them to the Premier League again. He also managed Derby County and Ipswich Town. In recent years, he worked as an assistant coach and a director of football.

Paul Jewell was born in Liverpool, England. He went to De La Salle School. He began his football journey as a young player with his hometown club, Liverpool.
In December 1984, Paul moved to Wigan Athletic. He played 137 games for Wigan and scored 35 goals. After that, he joined Bradford City in 1988. He played for Bradford City for ten years. He scored 56 goals in 269 games for them. He was a key player for the team.
Paul also had a brief loan period at Grimsby Town. He stopped playing football in 1998. This was the same year Bradford City won promotion from Division Two.
Paul Jewell's Managerial Journey
Paul Jewell started coaching even before he stopped playing. He joined Bradford City's coaching team in 1995. In 1998, he became the manager of Bradford City.
Leading Bradford City to Success
Paul's first game as manager was a 2–1 win against Stockport County. He helped the team finish 13th, which was their best position in a long time. The club's chairman gave him a permanent job. Paul signed new players like Lee Mills and Isaiah Rankin. He also brought back Stuart McCall.
Bradford City had a great season in 1998–99. They finished second in the league. This meant they were promoted to the Premier League. It was the first time Bradford had been in the top league in 77 years!
In the 1999–2000 season, Bradford City stayed in the Premier League. They secured their spot on the very last day. They beat Liverpool 1–0 at home. Paul Jewell then left Bradford City to manage Sheffield Wednesday.
Time at Sheffield Wednesday
Paul hoped to help Sheffield Wednesday get promoted. However, his time there was difficult. He was in charge for eight months. He left the club in February 2001.
Success with Wigan Athletic
In June 2001, Paul Jewell became the manager of Wigan Athletic. In his second season (2002–03), Wigan won the Division Two championship. This was a big achievement for the club.
In the 2004–05 season, Paul led Wigan to promotion to the Premier League. This was the first time Wigan Athletic reached the top league. In the 2005–06 season, Wigan played in the League Cup final. They played against Manchester United but lost 4–0.
On the last day of the 2006–07 season, Paul helped Wigan avoid relegation. They won against Sheffield United. The next day, Paul resigned as Wigan manager.
Managing Derby County
Paul Jewell became the manager of Derby County in November 2007. He signed players like Robbie Savage and Roy Carroll. Derby County faced a tough season. They were relegated from the Premier League in March 2008. They finished the season with only 11 points.
Paul got his first league win as Derby manager in September 2008. His team beat Sheffield United 2–1. He also led Derby to their first League Cup semi-final in 40 years. He resigned in December 2008.
Ipswich Town and Later Roles
Paul Jewell was announced as Ipswich Town manager in January 2011. His first match was a 1–2 loss to Millwall. However, Ipswich's form improved for a while. They finished the 2010–11 season in 13th place.
In the 2011 summer, Paul signed several experienced players. Ipswich started the 2011–12 season well. But their form became inconsistent. They finished the season in 15th place. After a poor start to the 2012–13 season, Paul left Ipswich Town in October 2012.
After leaving Ipswich, Paul had a few assistant coaching roles. He was assistant manager at West Bromwich Albion in 2015. He also worked at Oldham Athletic in 2017. In December 2018, Paul Jewell became the director of football at Swindon Town. He left Swindon in July 2021.
Paul Jewell's Family Life
Paul Jewell lives in Witney with his wife, Ann-Marie. They have two children. Their son, Sam, works in football recruitment for Premier League club Chelsea. Their daughter is named Alex. Paul's father was a trade union activist in Liverpool.
