Paul Martyn Konchesky, born on May 15, 1981, is an English football coach and former professional player. He recently managed West Ham United Women in the FA WSL.
During his 21-year playing career, Konchesky was known as a left back. He played for many famous clubs in the Premier League, including Charlton Athletic, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United, Fulham, Liverpool, and Leicester City. He also played for teams in the Football League and non-league football. Paul Konchesky played 15 times for the England under-21 team and twice for the senior England squad.

Paul Konchesky's Early Life and Background
Paul Konchesky was born in Barking, England. He went to Eastbrook Comprehensive School in Dagenham. He started playing football at a young age for a club called Great Danes YFC. He also came through the Senrab F.C. academy, which has helped many famous players like John Terry and Jermain Defoe.
When he was a boy, he joined the Academy at West Ham United. His last name, Konchesky, comes from his great-grandfather, who was Polish. Paul has always been a big fan of West Ham United. He even had a season ticket for the Bobby Moore Stand at their old stadium, the Boleyn Ground. His football idol was Julian Dicks. Paul's nephew, Frankie Terry, is also a professional footballer.
For most of his career, Konchesky had a shaved head, but he grew his hair out in 2014. He has two sons and one daughter. In 2015, he opened a cafe called Konch's Kafe in Brentwood, Essex. It serves traditional East End food like pie and mash, and his mother, Carol, worked there.
Paul Konchesky's Club Playing Career
Playing for Charlton Athletic
Konchesky joined Charlton Athletic as a young player in August 1997. He became the youngest player to play for Charlton's first team at 16 years and 93 days old. This record was later broken by Jonjo Shelvey. He started playing regularly in the 2000–01 season, making 27 appearances.
In 2003, Konchesky wanted to play more often as a left back, so he asked to leave Charlton. They agreed, but no other clubs made a strong offer. Instead, he went to Tottenham Hotspur on loan. Charlton called him back in December 2003 because many players were injured.
Loan Spell at Tottenham Hotspur
In September 2003, Konchesky joined Tottenham Hotspur for a one-month loan. This loan was extended a few times. Konchesky really wanted to join Tottenham permanently, but it didn't happen.
Playing for West Ham United
In July 2005, Konchesky joined West Ham United. He had played 168 games for Charlton and 15 for Tottenham. In the 2005–06 season, he played 45 games and helped West Ham finish ninth in the Premier League.
He also helped West Ham reach the 2006 FA Cup Final. In the final against Liverpool, he scored a goal when his cross went straight into the net. However, West Ham lost the match on penalties after a 3–3 draw.
During the 2006–07 season, he played less often, making only 25 appearances. West Ham struggled that season but managed to stay in the Premier League on the last day. He left the club in July 2007, having played 70 games for West Ham and scoring two goals.
Playing for Fulham

Konchesky signed a four-year contract with Fulham in July 2007. He played his first game for Fulham in the 2008–09 season against Hull City. He made a mistake that helped Hull score the winning goal.
In January 2009, he scored his first goal for Fulham against his old team, West Ham. It was a fantastic shot from 35 yards out. This goal won the Goal of the Month award for January 2009.
In September 2009, Konchesky scored again, helping Fulham win 2–1 against Everton. He played for Fulham in the Europa League final in 2010. Fulham lost 2–1 to Atlético Madrid. On August 27, 2010, news came out that Konchesky was going to join Liverpool.
Playing for Liverpool
On August 31, 2010, Konchesky signed a four-year contract with Liverpool. He played his first league game on September 12 against Birmingham City. He also played in the UEFA Europa League against Steaua București.
However, his time at Liverpool was difficult. Fans often criticized him. For example, a mistake against Tottenham allowed Aaron Lennon to score the winning goal. Liverpool fans even cheered sarcastically when he was substituted in a game against Wolves.
Loan Spell at Nottingham Forest
In January 2011, a new manager, Kenny Dalglish, arrived at Liverpool. Konchesky was not playing much, so he joined Nottingham Forest on a loan deal on January 31. He played his first game for Forest on February 1, helping them win 2–1 against Coventry City. On February 22, 2011, Konchesky scored a goal for Forest against Preston North End. He played his last game for Forest on April 30, 2011.
Playing for Leicester City

Konchesky joined Leicester City on July 13, 2011, signing a three-year contract. He played his first game on August 20, 2011, in a 2–2 draw against Nottingham Forest. He scored his first goal for Leicester in a 3–1 win against Burnley on November 1, 2011.
In August 2013, Konchesky was almost going to leave Leicester, but a transfer deal fell through, and he returned to the team. He signed a new contract in January 2014. Konchesky was a very important player when Leicester won promotion to the Premier League in the 2013–14 season.
In the 2014–15 season, he helped Leicester avoid being relegated from the Premier League. He scored his first Premier League goal in a long time (1945 days!) in a 1–0 win against Aston Villa on January 10, 2015. On July 30, 2015, the manager, Claudio Ranieri, told Konchesky that he was not part of his plans, and he could look for a new club.
On August 4, 2015, Konchesky joined Queens Park Rangers on a loan for the season. He played his first game for QPR in a 2–0 loss against Charlton. On June 27, 2016, Leicester City let him go.
Playing for Gillingham and Billericay Town
On July 21, 2016, Konchesky joined Gillingham on a one-year contract. He stayed there until February of the next year. Then, he moved to Billericay Town, a non-league club.
He played 12 games in the 2016–17 season and 11 more the next season before leaving Billericay in November 2017.
Playing for East Thurrock United
In July 2018, Konchesky joined East Thurrock United. On August 19, 2018, he announced on his Instagram that he had left the club.
Paul Konchesky's International Career
Konchesky played 15 games for the England under-21 team. He also played two games for the senior England team. His first game for England was in February 2003, when he came on as a substitute in a friendly match against Australia. His second game was in November 2005, also as a substitute, in a friendly against Argentina.
Paul Konchesky's Coaching Career
In 2017, Konchesky returned to West Ham to help with coaching. In August 2020, he went back to Billericay as an assistant manager to Jamie O'Hara. He was also registered to play for the team. However, on December 3, 2020, both Konchesky and O'Hara left the club.
Konchesky became the assistant manager for West Ham United Women in May 2021. In May 2022, he became their manager for the 2022–23 FA WSL season. On May 28, 2023, West Ham announced that Konchesky was leaving his role as manager.
